Selective States' Rights

The Republican-majority HOR had just recently passed legislation prohibiting the use of so-called "taxpayer money" on activities designed to stop the use of medical marijuana in states in which such use is legal. In essence this "somewhat" reduces their rightwing constituents' anger over socialist govmint spending, yet permits the DOJ to continue to use seized assets from drug busts to fund these "activities".

The voice vote was taken and the amendment was designed in order to push the Feds into working harder and more quickly to enforce the CSA in states that have legalized the use, growing, and sale of pot (including medical), by docking them the nearly $1 M, which is of course merely a pittance in the legal and illegal drug world.

Legalizing MJ negatively affects the private as well as the public jails and prisons' bottom lines, since both make $$$ off of their often overcrowded facilities. Empty cells=empty pockets, including those state prisons and county jails that charge sentenced inmates for the length of their stay, and will sue them for non-payment.

Big Pharma also has a vested interest in keeping pot illegal, since medical marijuana means less and less ailing people taking Rx drugs.

Its all about the Benjamins. Its also a huge joke that pot is still a Schedule I drug, being considered medically useless, unlike cocaine.

Disclaimer: I no longer partake in smoking MJ, (for over a decade) despite the fact that I am disabled, and could very easily obtain a medical marijuana permit card here in Mi.
