I couldn't find anything in the news about it, but I heard an NSF guy last week say he was expecting (but not confident in) a resolution on the 27th. No idea what his source is or to what degree it's speculation, but if we do actually get a resolution on the 27th I'll be as confused as to how our government and media work as ever. How can they speak of it openly and treat it like common knowledge in DC, but have the media stay clueless and silent on the issue?

you should be confused. that is by design.

like they did in January.

whenever they raise taxes while keeping benefits the same, or cutting benefits... or... both... they never come out and say that, so the public doesn't know what's going on.

That allows the Republicans to keep repeating their "small government/less taxes" and "spending is out of control" mantras while preserving massive defense spending and subsidies to big agriculture, big pharma, and the oil/energy sector, and the democrats to kinda... well... it's not clear where they publicly stand these days, except as "nicer, sweeter, kinder Republicans" who will argue SS, medicare, medicaid, and welfare needs to be cut, but at least they'll tell you they're not enthusiastic about it.

... either way, you're not supposed to actually figure out what is going on, or try to get involved in any meaningful way.

I'd like to sequester Congress in chambers and deny it food, water and all hygiene privileges until it figgers this shit out, or is stepping on their own. But they are doing the latter already.

The partisan separation in congress has gotten so extreme now I'd bet that rep's and dem's don't even smile and nod at each other when they pass in the hallways on Capitol Hill.

It feels like the only time there is any real bi-partisan feelings is after some kind of major disaster or tragedy. Which is the real tragedy.
