Sheffler's chances of playing for the Lions in 2013

I remember looking over the players we had under contract and two holy crap's came up for their pay to production ratio, Sheffler was one, Raiola was the other.

Unfortunately you cut Scheffler, Young is already gone, Broyles is the spokesperson for hoveround, Nate is slowly transitioning into washed up, Leshoure is not a receiving back, and stone hands Pettigrew is better at blocking...you have CJ and who? FA I suppose.

And with the 5th pick of the 2013 draft, the Detroit Lions select WR....

sigh....I knew Pettigrew sucked....didn't realize scheffler sucked almost as bad. At some point when your top 2 TEs catch rate is that awful and CJs is never that good either and hes an all world WR....maybe we need to start looking at whos throwing the ball a little more closely.

"PFF also accounts for catch-able passes, which is what they use to create the overall drop rate of a player. Pettigrew still ranks worse than Scheffler, but not by much (Pettigrew is 4th worst, Scheffler 6th)"

Meh. Grew is still is better than most when you factor in run blocking. Could there be a better fit? Sure. But he's pretty damn solid. In the coming years I think tweener pass catching non blocking tightends such as chef and Hernandez will be at a premium and a dime a dozen. It's a new nfl. Maybe I'll worry about it for a year or so if hes released but they'll be plenty sooner or later in abundance.

Interesting article. A friend that is a bears fan said that Scheff is still good friends with Cutler, and after his contract is up, he plans on going to da Bears. Same friend also said that Scheff was upset at being #2 on the Lions.

No offense but why would your friend have this inside information soley by being a bears fan?

Also, I believe Scheff loves playing for the Lions, he is from MI and went to WMU, so it seems that he would be very comfortable here.

That being said, I agree that his time in Detroit should be coming to an end. He will prob be a free agent and will have his choice of teams, so he very well could end up on the Bears.

Cutler seems to have a lot of friend in the NFL... just none of them on the Offensive line.

Scheffler did not step up this year and wasn't efficient. He can make plays downfield though and until the Lions find a down the field TE, they will hang on to Scheffler

That and he can play in the slot.

hill could be gone too....

Tony Scheffler - TE - Lions The Lions could save $2.45 million against the cap by releasing Tony Scheffler.
The cap-strapped Lions have plenty of options when trying to knock their 2013 cap figures down, but MLive.com mentions Scheffler and Shaun Hill as candidates to be cut. Hill's release would save $2.75 million. Scheffler underwhelmed late in the season when asked to step in for injured Brandon Pettigrew. Related: Shaun Hill

Great so we ARE going to overpay Reggie Bush.

I don't see that. One Reggie Bush will want to go to a better team, two Mayhew won't overpay him that much where he'd want to be here. Cutting Hill would be smart.

I don't think Reggie will have that many options, especially ones that suit him and are willing to pay him like he wants. I hope they use what little cap they have wisely.

I could definitely see that.
On a side note I want the chargers to put a third round tender on DX, I think that guy is made for our offense, too bad we were 'set' a the time the rams released him.
