Obviously now we know for sure, Schwartz is gone and Mayhew is staying. I think keeping Mayhew was the right move, he brought in more then enough talent for Schwartz to win with and has done a pretty good job as GM. I think firing him would really hurt this team as a new GM AND coach will do a lot of house cleaning when I don't think all that much needs to be tweaked.
We have a very good O-Line all we need is a C to replace Raiola, if not this year then sometime in the near future. Obviously we are set at QB and I would say RB too. TE will be a need if Pettigrew walks. I think probably our biggest need is WR because we have trash behind Calvin. Durham could stay, but hes just a #4 at best, and I like Burleson for his leadership, but I'd make finding a quality #2 and maybe even a slot guy depending on Broyles a priority.
On defense we have Jones coming back next year with Ansah and Taylor as the young guys. If we don't bring back Young we need to find a solid veteran, but we are pretty much set there. DT is set with the top three maybe find a little depth. Levy and Tulloch both had great years and Palmer wasn't a liability, could upgrade, but not pressing. Even at CB, I'm not terribly concerned. I like the young guys we have I just think coaching was a big problem. As long as Houston can turn it around and play like before Its a decent bunch. Could use an upgrade for sure, but we aren't desperate.
My top three guys for the next HC spot would be Mike Zimmer, Ken Whisenhunt, or Lovie Smith. I'm not a big fan of going and picking from the college ranks as that rarely works. Who are the recent exceptions Harbaugh and Kelly? Thats about it unless I'm missing someone. I also think retaining some of the staff is important. Both Washburns should stay and I also hope they bring back Krocurek the D-Line coach. Outside of that the rest can go.
