Staff, Hanson, KVB, and Dom... This week's weekly captain is Stovall.

great to see Stovall in uniform...thought he might have trouble cracking the 47.

Big target. He could be a big help. Put him out there with CJ and Pett in the redzone, unstoppable.

I think that Stovall clearly performed well enough to earn the #3 WR spot to start the season with T Young rotating in progressivly more.

My gut says that Young will be handed the #3 spot week 1.

He was a high draft pick why not. I remember when Barry missed all of training camp and the preseason, should he have started as the number two? Okay that might be a stretch but he's got talent and can stretch the field.

How can the Lions make Raiola a captain? This is the same guy that's had spats with fans, was *allegedly* involved in assaulting a waitress, and has stolen a paycheck from WCF for the last decade.

Because he's the C dude.

We're just going to have accept the fact that there's something the coaches and players see in him that we as fans completely miss. I'm not as hard on Raiola as others, but I don't get it either...

most likely because you're not in the locker room or on the coaching staff...Crayola has been revered by every coaching staff they've brought in...the fans may bash him but he obviously brings something to the football team.

I hear ya on that, but why not put the tag on Sackus instead? He's been here longer, he's better, and there isn't any controversy off the field.

I think I'd want my Captain to be a C over LT. Backus just has to worry about the RE clobbering his QB. Leave him alone :)

Center makes all the line calls.....

Ask the other 52 in the locker room, we've got nothin' for ya over here...

Yep. Dom reminds me of the kind of asshole that would have your back in a bar room fight. Now if he played as big as his attitude was, he would be perfect.

Sometimes leadership is enough to keep a less talented player around. Mark Messier was never the greatest player on the ice, but if I had to pick an all-time greatest captain in all sports, any sport, I'd be hard pressed to choose between him and Stevie-Y.

But I can promise you Gretzky and Pujols wouldn't crack my top 100.

Isn't this voted on by the players? Everyone hates Dom but the people that count.

I'm not sure. I have heard that it's voted on by the players, and I've also heard the coaches choose.

I'm not sure it's so much an NFL tradition as it is decided on by the coaching regime.

If I'm not mistaken, Schwartz chooses his captains.

Maybe it was just last year for one game I am thinking of but I swear they voted someone to be a captain and the coaches had to change it cause it was a joke.

Edit:
it wasn' that they changed the captains just that Hanson wouldn't go out for the coin toss, This was from last year :

He brings a 2 yard or less carry on average whenever we run in his vicinity (between lg and rg) lol. He can call all he wants....he doesnt perform. Dude has sucked for years.

Raiola is that guy who is in your face. He loves the spotlight, always chatting up the media and is a TEAM guy. Coaches love that shit. Yeah, he isn't a good C, but he's a leader and guys obviously look up to him. This is coming from a guy (me) who hates Raiola. Look at Backus...he rarely talks to the media. I swear, i've only seen him a handful of times on TV talking about the Lions. He keeps to himself and just works at his trade in a professional manner. He's too quiet to be a Captain.....
