sooo..he just drafts players who get injured?...some were on him a lil bit (best, broyles)..but alot of others just unlucky.

Ww

You don't even have to compare us to Seattle. To have only 5 guys in the last 4 drafts start for 8 games in a row is insane.

More than any sport, NFL Football is all about how you draft. The poor quality of our drafts for the last 15 years is simply insane. We get almost no talent on the field from each draft. Sure, we've had a couple of no brainers contribute in Stafford, Suh, and Johnson, but outside of that it's slim pickings.

If you graded all the teams in the NFL for their drafts the last 10 years on a 0-100 scale with 100 being the best, most of the teams would be around 70-80, a few of the great franchises would be in the 90s. The worst would be in the 60s, the Lions would be in the teens. We don't just have the worst draft history, we have the worst draft history by a mile.

Don't sleep on the browns..

Delmas, Fairley, Reiff will be starters for years.

The trades for starters Houston, Williams and Sims I have no problem using draft picks for that. Same with backups Shaun Hill and Lawrence Jackson.

Inherited Backus, Raiola, Peterman and Gosder. There will be some changes there.

No problems with using free agency on Tulloch, Durant and Burleson. KVB in 2010/2011 too.

Broyles will contribute a ton out of the slot for years.

Spievey and Best would start if not for UNLUCKY concussions.

Plus 3 CBs and 2 LBs to develop

All that and we are hoping they go 8-8 next year. Fantastic!

The problem is I don't want Spievey starting. He's not good enough to start just about anywhere in the league.

He was good in the first half of 2011 and solid the few games he played this year. A stud safety next to Delmas would be nice though.

Spievey is horrid. If hes not whiffing in the hole hes taking wrong angles to give up huge pass plays or biting on a play action and getting toasted. He had no business ever starting in the NFL. We drafted yet another mid to late round cb, had him play a different position....and he wasnt good at it....ever.

Whether you chalk it up to bad luck (injury), bad drafting, or bad coaching, it's fair to say that every Mayhew drafted player outside Stafford and Suh have failed to live up to expectations.

Mayhew has loaded this team with talent.

Wrong. First half of 2011 he played well. 2012 he played solid.

he was one of the worst players on our defense in 2011. 2012 he didn't even play....and when or if he did....he would have sucked.

2011 the first half the Lions defense was ranked top 5 in almost every category but run defense. See game preview before Thanksgiving game where everybody got hurt.

Spievey played well but then got hurt in the second half of 2011 and played on a bum knee next to Chris Harris, Eric Wright and Alphonso Smith. He took a couple bad angles against San Fran and Atlanta but overall played well in the first half. And Spievey played the playoff game with a concussion.

Spievey is not a problem when healthy. He could be upgraded this draft but he's far from a problem and he could get better as he learns the position more. The lockout then concussion hurt his development and his first TC he was at CB not safety.

2012 he did play. And he played well. He played in 2 3/4 games. at Philadelphia a win and at Chicago where we held Chicago to 13 points in their house despite terrible offense. Spievey played solid and well in those 2 games especially in coverage. And the Titan game he was charged with 1 catch for 7 yards. Coleman, Wendling, Lacey and Bentley were bigger problems in that game.

Erik Coleman, Wendling and Silva(after a few solid games) were a problem. Then Don Carey came in and did well later in the season. It's a shame he got hurt in TC or we may have had solid safety play all year from him. Delmas was only solid this year battling a knee injury.

They'll tender Spievey (1.3 million) as he's been cleared and he'll compete with a drafted safety to start next to Delmas.
