[UPDATE] -- The LINE has moved a bit since the OP. Currently it is now MICHIGAN -6.5 and the Over/Under is now at 44.5 Total Points.
Congratulations to Spartan23MSU for coming closest with his 35-7 score prediction for the UNLV game. Most fans in last week's Prediction Thread were calling for a bigger blowout than we saw after the Offense stalled a bit in the second half, but a win is a win in the end.
On to BYU ….
For the second time this month, the Michigan Wolverines take on a program from the state of Utah but this time it isn’t a Power-5 Conference foe and the game is not in Salt Lake. Thee #22 ranked (2-1) Brigham Young University Cougars come into Ann Arbor having played what many in the national media are deeming one of the more difficult early schedules in Division I. Beating the Buggeaters in Lincoln on a last second Hail Mary, BYU rode that momentum back to Provo, scoring a win over then #21 Boise State and another impressive near-upset on the road in Los Angeles against the #9 Bruins.
Back up Freshman QB Taylor Mangum has played well after being forced into action against Nebraska and brings an otherwise experienced group of Cougars to Michigan Stadium. Opening on some boards at MICHIGAN -6 the current line on the game is MICHIGAN -5.5 with a Total Over/Under of 45 points as some early money seems to have come in on BYU. That said, MICHIGAN is (2-0) since 2000 as an unranked Home favorite, playing host to a ranked opponent. This is a very pivotal game for MICHIGAN in many respects, as the team looks ahead to the start of Conference play next week – win and go (3-1) with a lot of momentum or lose and limp into the BigTen at (2-2).
Fielding one of the Nation’s best Defenses, the Wolverines have held opponents to under 13 points per game and seem to be improving each week, led by the play of Chris Wormley and Jabrill Peppers. But the Cougars boast a group of tall and athletic wide receivers and will present the Michigan secondary with its toughest challenge of the season. Putting pressure on the quarterback will be crucial if the Wolverines look to have success on Defense while the Michigan offense is going to have to complete a long pass play at some point. The inconsistent play of Graduate transfer Jake Rudock has some folks grumbling in Ann Arbor but Coach Hargbaugh! insists that Jake is the man.
The only prior meeting between these two unlikely opponents was in the 1984 Holiday Bowl where BYU defeated a Wolverine squad with Harbaugh on the roster 24-17 to finish a perfect 13-0 and be named National Champions.
This time Jim Harbaugh! leads the team onto the field as Head Coach (long sleeved shirt, headset and all!), undefeated at Home and looking to remain that way for the third consecutive week. If MICHIGAN wants to get the attention of the national audience and Top 25 Poll voters, this Saturday at Noon is a great opportunity to do it.
So post your predictions and some supportive analysis if you wish, but leave the woofing and barking for other threads ....
...yeah, well we will see about that.
