This guy's name has come up in several articles recently, and he is getting praise in every single one of them. I'm starting to think this guy might soon be battling for Bushs starting RB spot. He jumped ahead of Leshoure on the depth chart last year, and seems to be getting more attention than any Lion right now.

If Reggies case of fumblitis continues into this season, I could definitely see myself wanting to see Riddick take over, which I think might happen sooner than some may expect.

Yeah, just like Edwards was last year. If all that praise shows up on the field.....great....otherwise it's just a story to fill a deadline.

Kinda disheartening that he's schooling the Lions linebackers on the regular, lol.

He will still be #3. Bush is the best RB on this team. Bell offers better size so he will stay in the #2 spot.

Plus bell had a higher fumble rate than Bush.

He's been mentioned as taking over the Sproles role which was originally the Bush role in NO's offense. He looks like Bush's back up and predecessor. He might sneak in a couple touches a game. I like Riddick and he is shifty but I don't think he's got the home run in him. Not quite a Pat Edwards story but for sure has the smell of offseason hype.

from espn rumors.....

Will Riddick fill Sproles role for Lions?

Former New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles was a darling of fantasy football owners who play in point-per-reception leagues due to his ability to rack up tons of catches and yards out of the backfield.

The Detroit Lions lured Joe Lombardi away from the Saints to be their offensive coordinator, and he is expected to employ his version of the Saints system -- so who figures to play the Sproles role?

Backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky thinks that it will be Theo Riddick.

“I’m telling you, if he doesn’t have 50 catches this year, I’ll be surprised because he’s going to have opportunities and he’s very talented at it,” Orlovsky said on the Ross Tucker Football Podcast (HT Detroit Free Press). “I think he’s going to play that Sproles role, for sure.”

Riddick spent a chunk of his college career working as a slot receiver, so he has proven pass-catching skills. As a sixth-round rookie last season, he saw only eight passing targets, pulling in four of them. Could he really reel in 50-plus passes in Year 2?

With Reggie Bush and Joique Bell ahead of Riddick on the depth chart, it seems unlikely. Both Bush and Bell topped 50 receptions last season.

However, as ESPN Lions reporter Michael Rothstein notes in this video, Bush has long been prone to injury and Bell is coming off of knee surgery, so if either or both are felled this season, Riddick -- who has had a hot offseason -- could be put in position to make a splash.

No bashing yet from this news? I really must be in the Bizarro World

I see it as off season hype. I really want it to be true. I think we will know for sure once the preseason hits and if he really shows off something. IIRC Edwards flopped in preseason last year too.

loved Riddick coming out and had him mocked to us. He has very quick feet and great hands and plays his ass off on ST. not much not to like except he doesn't have "top end" speed.

Theyre trying to slot him into the "sproles" role. He probably has better hands than sproles....is almost as quick as sproles...hes not as fast as sproles which will make it difficult for him to gain the edge the way sproles always did in NO offense.

Not as fast and not as quick means he won't be a Sproles clone.

Sproles got 650-700 yards receiving every year in New Orleans. We don't need Riddick to do that with Bush and Bell here too among many other weapons. But he can be an asset in the passing game. That much is obvious.

Bet we need him to fill Bushs role at least 4 games this year.
