--Both pitchers in tonight's game are off to horrible starts for 2016. Pelfrey, signed in the offseason, goes against his former team tonight still searching for his first win as a Tiger. He's making his eighth start for Detroit. Hughes also is struggling, with an 8.50 ERA in his last four starts. Hughes is tied for the American League lead in losses with six.
--OK, who would have predicted Nick Castellanos would be leading the American League in batting average on May 17? He is, at a nifty .348 clip. He's got a team-high eight homers (tied with Ian Kinsler) and 30 RBIs, too.
--Victor Martinez is third in the AL batting race at .338. As a team, the Tigers are batting .259, third in the American League.
--Detroit's 4.60 ERA is the fourth-highest in the American League. Minnesota has the AL's worst ERA at 4.92.
