Someone get the XKCD guy on this.
During debates, there should be a bar in the corner of the screen representing the annual deficit. Whenever a topic comes up that's associated with a documented cost, the appropriately scaled bar should appear to give people an idea of how big a problem we're talking about. Deficit is over $1T. Bush tax cuts = $0.35T. Portion of Bush tax cuts associated with salaries over $250k= $0.1T. Food stamps = $0.07T. Unemployment = $0.12T (but have of that is paid by states, not fed.) ...approx. Quick eyeballing of charts.
