What if we resign no one on D.

I heard during the game last night that 8 players on D needed to be resigned. They mentioned KVB as one of them. I thought to myself he doesn't deserve it, but does anyone on D really deserve it? I say we make a statement and not sign ANY of our D free agents. Non of them have earned it, maybe Durrant, but he would have to take less money.

I truly don't think our defensive players are that bad. Last night as an example, when we were blitzing the defense looked good. Then Gunther goes back into his shell and the opposing offense walks down the field. The biggest problem is the DC.

I am not saying we have pro bowlers all over the field. But when used aggressively, we have a decent defense. Get some secondary help, keep the LBs intact and get new DEs and we will be okay.

KVB is signed throu 2013. His ability has gone down dramitically...I dont see him back and he may retire.

Houston, Delmas, Durant, Hill and Avril(if its $8 Mill or less).......should be signed if at all possible. We drafted 3 DB's last year and 3 LB's in the last 2......I have to believe one can fill a LB spot. Personally I like to see us make an offer to CW for one year(maybe $2.5-3).

Its the secondary thats the major problem.

Agreed. I actually think the defense has talent.....but aren't used AT ALL the way they should be. It's like U of M under Rich Rod and Hoke. The final year under RR that defense was fucking terrible. But year one with Hoke....with virtually the same players......they did much better.

I think the Lions have a top 15 defense.....with some secondary help top 10. But they are so poorly used (blitzing, coverage schemes) that they don't play to it.

IMHO....Gunther is the major problem. Schwartz need to swallow some pride and realize it....and realize a little bit more aggressive scheme is needed....for this D to be successful.

It was brough to my attention that gunther didn't run a wide 9 scheme prior to coming to detroit. I don't understand how schwartz was the "wide 9" guy, and didn't get a DC who was a wide 9 guy. Seems like a terrible blunder to me. How would gunther know the nuances of it? That seems like the root of our defensive problems with everything else being the aftermath of it. Yeah, our secondary isn't helping things either.

Yep, I think donnie henderson could have done a much better job with these same guys.
