Price and Samardzija set to duel once again. Back on April 17th each pitcher went 8 innings, gave up 1 run got a no decision in the Tigers 2-1 win.
Price hasn’t been quite as good at home this year as he’s been on the road, but his home era is still 3.29 in 6 starts and his day era is an impressive 1.51 in 5 starts. Lefties are hitting Price better than righties (.271 to .233). This will be the 3rd start against the Sox this season. In the previous 2 starts he’s gone 17 innings, given up 9 hits, 2 runs, 20 k’s and 4 walks. Price has a 4-1 record and 1.22 era in his last 6 games.
Samardzija has struggled on the road this year with a 5.34 era in 9 starts, but he’ll be facing the Tigers for the 4th time this season. In 3 starts he’s thrown 22.1 innings (never less than 7 innings), given up 25 hits, and given up 9 runs while striking out 19.
Tiger batters are a combined 27 for 97 (.278) with 4 home runs and a .767 ops against him. Cespedes is 4 for 10 with 2 hr’s and is hitting .353 in the month of June. JD has hit 9 home runs with 19 rbi’s in his last 12 games (.347) and has reached base in a career high 19 straight games. JD is 4 for 16 with a home run against him. Since being benched June 22nd, Castellanos is batting .429 with two doubles, a triple and two rbi’s, but he's just 1-for-9 lifetime vs. Samardzija.
Sox batters are hitting a combined .205 (36 for 176) with a .522 ops and 2 home runs against Price. Garcia and Abreu have the only home runs against him. Eaton will try and hit a lead off homer for the 3rd straight game. That feat was last achieved by Brady Anderson in 1996. He is hitting .438 (7 for 16) against Price.
Rain shouldn't be an issue. Temps should be around 70 and breezy.
