MSU vs Furman

how come when an Ohio State fan bashes MSU's OOC schedule, spartan fans attack UM? you guys are so goddamn dumb.

Champ, we just want to love you and be loved by you *searches for blushing icon*

Crazy? nahh youve seen me posting for years. Soo, you walked away feeling really good about last night? That was fucking trash and you know it. Fact is im an armchair hack expecting kids to please me but yeah that was piss fucking poor. we ALMOST LOST TO FURMAN (they were 1 fucking score away for most of the game) Dont sugar coat it!!! BTW dont take it the wrong way Lucious its just general dissapoinment

I walked away feeling "ehhh that was shitty, penalty after penalty." So when we beat Notre Dame will you change your mind automatically? There's too much talent on this team to go 7-5.

some people won't acknowledge a problem with the team until we lose 3 or 4. You're 100% right - the defense stunk it up last night. If we're as talented and deep up front as some said going into the season, we should get pressure on their QB with 4 guys, but the only sacks we got were coverage sacks. And I don't think O'Connor looked good at all. That TD to Davis on the fade would have been broken up or picked against OSU or uofm and probably a couple other teams on the schedule - the guy didn't look off a receiver all night. About the best thing he did was shake off the interception and go back to playing well enough to beat Furman.

I know Spartans23 loves the deep ball - everyone likes seeing it work - but I think we should have been able to run Scott 40+ times last night and run them into the ground. That's how you set up the deep ball off play action when you don't have a world beater wide out.
Were on the same page with almost everything (even beyond football). I like seeing 3-4 deep balls a game to spread an offense and open up a run. Other than the year of the rose bowl we havent completed a pass in the air over 30 yards. Thats being predictable to say the very least. Game Plan :COVER SHORT!!!!! I see lots of sugar coating from MSU fans and im not going to. What I saw last night other than the first drive was fucking putrid. The good thing is it wakes me up that there are more important things than kids sports. The sad thing is I wouldnt feel the same if MSU played the way we all expected last night. I saw no desire out there and that is the most disappointing thing. I saw Furman palyers getting hyped and jumping around.. I saw MSU players, Duuuuuuh what happened, which way did he go george, AT HOME!!!!!!!

There is way too much talent for that, YES! Im sure we will improve but thats expected after seeing the lowest common denominator of football

Tinsel,
Thats one of the worst football games ive ever seen in 25 years of watching MSU football.

I hate to be a negative Nelly but im positively negative right now...

( I tried to pull off something youd say)

MSU record prediction 7-5

Do you really hate it bud?

This was your post after last years first game

" If youre going to have a team that gives up points easily you have to be EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE on offense against good teams to counteract a putrid defense (thats what it was). That means putting the ball over 20 yards in the air 3-4 times per game (yawn, that wont happen all year unless we get down early and try to crawl back in the last quarter when its too fucking late.) . Our running game isnt that strong yet, why are we not testing another team on a 40 yard fly pattern????????????? Ohhh how I love complaining about this EVERY year.

This looked like a 7-5, 8-4 team tonight. I hate to be a Negative Nelly but that was fucking weak. The biggest problem I saw was POOR TACKLING, I didnt hear that brought up all night but the basic wrap and bring down was 0 tonight. VERY POOR TACKLING tonight, this team appeared undisciplined and mediocore. Other teams need to focus on taking Connor Cook out, without him we are a .500 team or slightly better from tonights "effort". We are 1 player from disaster, OSU is going to roll people even with significant injuries."

I especially loved the irony that your last line ended up having.

The worst Michigan game I remember-and there have been some bad ones-was last year to the Spartans.

That's gonna still sting for a while.

Watching that game and seeing that we had almost twice as many total yards and doubled up your first downs and were losing it made me think of this brilliant young man's quote. I can't remember his name, but it went something like:

""Sometimes you get your little brother excited when you're playing basketball and let him get the lead. Then you just come back and take it back."

Seemed very fitting at the moment.

I don't think anyone was happy, but you just gotta remember that this is usually how we start.

Yeah, funny. Ha ha.

so it's not cause for concern? should we worry if we won by 50 last night?

I'm not thrilled with the way they go so vanilla early in the season in the blowout games. Honestly they probably used 1/3 of the playbook on offense and didn't blitz at all on defense. I'm not saying that this team might not end up a 4+ loss team. All I'm saying is that I've see the same thing almost every year under Dantonio in those types of games and then they go on to amazing seasons.

O'Connor and the o&line are going to have to get a lot better and the defense is going to have to get their heads out of their asses if this team is going to go 10-2 or better. it could happen but with all the personnel turnover, the previous seasons with slow starts aren't necessarily a good analog for this team.

I doubt we're looking at another 2012 but this team needs work.

Let's chill out with writing the season off, I watched our last two big ten championship teams underwhelm against Youngstown State and WMU in our openers. The thing that sucks the most is not having a game next week, we need to get out and play and beat someone and work on our mistakes. This bye week really sucks and could cost us a game later in the year when we need the break and play someone fresher than we are.

as for this game, the mistakes in this game were self inflicted. Did we dominate every phase of the game? of course not, but our mistakes weren't physical for the most part. the penalties we had were critical and dumb, personal fouls by Price, R Williams, felton davis, etc. If this were the JLS era you'd think those penalties wouldn't get cleaned up but they will under MD. Of course we'll miss Calhoun, Conklin, Cook, Allen, etc but this still has a chance to be a very good team this year.

We could have gone for a meaningless TD when we got the ball late and then everyone would feel a tad better but again, don't put too much stock in an opener.

One thing that wasn't mentioned is that Furman changed their offense in the last year, they ran a lot of spread and run pass option that they had never run before. they looked like a completely different team vs what they prepped for. Of course we should still win and we did, but we had to adjust to a completely different offense than they saw on film.
