The official 2018 nfl draft thread

Defensive front 7... pretty much every position but mlb

Te

Safety

ILB could be a need in 3/4 fronts. Unless you want to play Christian Jones or Jonathan Freeney as a starter which I don't recommend. JRM is the coverage Will possible but could add a better Will if there is really good one in Round 1 or 2 that you can't pass up.

One OLB in 3-4 is a must or you can't really run it right now.
One 3/4 end or 4-3 end opposite Ansah.

Nose set for now with Robinson and Sylvester Williams but in 4-3 fronts need a 3 tech. Hyder coming off injury. Zettel and CWashington are backups and not sure how they would fit a 3-4 front. C Wash did well at 3-4 end with Bears though. Kennard provides some pass rush at SAM/4-3 DE.

So lots of front 7 that can play both fronts.

Quin, Wilson, Killebrew and Diggs at safety. Plus Charles Washington. Not much of a need unless you give up on Killebrew.

Guard or Center depending where you want Glasgow. Don't sleep on Dahl and Wiggins though. It's not a huge need. The line will be better with new Oline coacha and some health. It was historically bad health on Oline last year. Most combos of any team since 1999. Decker, Lang, Wagner, Glasgow healthy is very big.

TE is a need but as everyone has been whining about, you can get one in mid to later rounds. Plus you got to see about Michael Roberts year 2. Luke Wilson is a solid athletic TE and get his shot. Toilolo is the blocker. You could go into the season with that.

Power back. With Blount that is diminished. Abudllah with a line and Riddick the pass catcher. Tion Green showed promise too. You can go into the season and be solid with that combo as well.

Dline pass rusher, front 7 Round 2 (Dline or LB), Round 3 Guard is optimal but if a good Round 2 RB is there you can go that right too.

Should be interesting with Quinn and Patricia working together.

I think you have to get an edge rusher in rd 1.... it's the glaring hole on this roster no matter what defense we run. If Davenport is gone i think were left with a choice of reaching for the key, hubbard or landrys of the world. Landry is a risk if you're not playing 3-4. I also think its a tad high for all those guys and there's a possibility they all might still be there... if that's the case try to trade down.

Landry can do it all tho. Hand in the dirt, play up, cover, get to the QB, play the run. Very versatile player. I would like him at 20. Hubbard, you can wait on IMO...

I'm always in favor of a trade down as long as we get good value and the guy they still want which is probably why we never trade down.....

Does anyone (UM fan perhaps) have info on Maurice Hurst? The guy was an absolute monster and in the running for top 10 at one point. I know he got flagged for some heart problem at the combine (which dropped him), but then he was given the ok to resume football activities. I read somewhere he got flagged the same as Lotulelei, but unlike Lotulelei he keeps falling.

Is his health problem career ending? If so, why is he still on draft boards at all? If not, why isn't he considered an absolute steal in the 2nd round?

Latest I heard is that McShay has him possibly going into Day 3 of the draft. That puts him in rds 4-7. According to McShay, teams have completely taken him off their board. Kiper still sees him as a late 1st early 2nd rd pick still. Take that for what it's worth....
Hurst got 2nd and 3rd opinions from Michigan and Harvard from cardiologists and they medically cleared him for Michigan's Pro day. I can't see this kid slipping into day 3. If he does, he's an absolute steal.

Guy reminds me a LOT of a healthy Nick Fairley. Somewhat undersized for the DT position (6?2?, 290 lbs), but extremely quick off the ball and can shoot gaps really well. Very disruptive. More of a pass rusher than a run the stopper but because he gets such good penetration can get himself into a run gap really quickly and disrupt the play in the backfield. I think he?d be a good pic at 20, and an absolute steal anywhere else after that. Would love to have him. Would be a very good compliment to A?shawn....who?s more of a run stopper.

100% agree with you. Have to get a top level talent this year at DE. Ansah is likely gone after this year so having someone going in to year two would be helpful. I?m not sold on Hyder.....But hey, if Hyder balls out this year then you?re faced with a very good dilemma. You can let Ansah walk and still have two top-tier defensive ends going into 2019. There?s nothing wrong with that.

Rolling the dice with just Ansah and Hyder is asking for trouble, IMO.

Hyder I was high on him but he's coming off an Achilles injury. those are bad ones. Hyder isn't exactly signed long term either. Restricted next year I believe

Landry is well know by Paqualoni. I think he would be a great fit for Patricia's scheme and give us legit 3-4 looks

A healthy Ansah, 1st round pass rusher and then Hyder, C Washington and Zettel chipping in. Plus Kennard. That is a legit pass rush. If you double down for a 3 tech in Round 2 it's even better.

Ansah Robinson Washington?
Kennard Jones Davis Landry

Not horrible... plus you'd have plenty of depth to rotate in.

Yeah looks like a decent 3-4 lineup if we get Landry. Depth with Williams and Hyder and Zettel could work. Akeem Spence doesn't fit that but they'll be 4-3 looks.

Worry about Kennard in coverage though. You can't send Kennard and Landry on the rush every time.

And Christian Jones got decent money too. He has experience, hopefully Patricia can do to him what he did to Van Noy/Shea McCllelin in NE.

The team is pretty versatile with 4-3, 3-4 talent already. Just need that one rush OLB and rush OLBs can do well as rookies.

Can't wait to see how it plays out.

Why can't you be like this all the time?
