Verlander traded to Houston, TJ Surgery, Wins 2 WS, Wins 3rd Cy Young Now a Met

In a trade, both teams can be winners. Houston is already a winner due to the WS victory. All the Tigers need to be considered a winner is for one of the 3 players to develop into an every day player and for them to be a positive contributor through their arb. eligible years. If more than one of the three do that...it will be a huge win for the Tigers.

Verlander doing great in Houston makes me happy. I always check the box score when he pitches. He's got a great team behind him now and is piling up wins. He's been so good for so long, I'd love to see him win another Cy Young. He's locked up the Hall of Fame now and will go in as a Tiger, that will be pretty cool.

He should pass 3000 strike outs next season, and he'll be approaching 250 wins a couple seasons after that. If he can stay healthy into his early 40s he might have an outside chance at becoming the last pitcher ever to 300 wins. He has 211 at 36 years old.

Astros righty says it was 'pretty humbling' to move ahead of Cy Young.
Tigers official site

In 13 starts this year, the @astros' Justin Verlander is holding opponents to a .150 batting average.
That's the 2nd-lowest opponent BA by any pitcher over his first 13 starts of a season in the live-ball era (minimum 50 IP), behind only Sam McDowell in 1966 (.150).

Justin Verlander?s last 5 pitches, Bot 8, to Matt Olson:
110. 98 mph swing/miss
111. 97 mph foul
112. 97 mph foul
113. 90 mph slider, ball
114. 88 mph slider, swing/miss

Verlander, a 36-year-old right-hander, is 10-4 with a 2.98 ERA this year for the Houston Astros, striking out 153 in 1262/3 innings.

.168/.221/.386 with 26 Home Runs would be a very strange season statline for a hitter.
That's what MLB has done against Justin Verlander this season.

Most outs gotten with slider this season:
Jakob Junis 158
Justin Verlander 147
Opposing hitters are 17-for-162 (.105 BA) in AB ending with a Verlander slider this season.
JV throws it a lot and he gets great results with it. It is one of the most valuable pitches in MLB.

9th time with 200 K's in a season. One of just 7. Others Nolan Ryan (15), Randy Johnson (13), Roger Clemens (12), Tom Seaver (10), Pedro Mart?nez (9), and Bob Gibson (9). Very good company.

Verlander fifth to reach 250 K's five times. Verlander recorded his 250th strikeout of the season, becoming just the fifth pitcher to do so in five different seasons. He joined Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson and his former Tigers teammate Max Scherzer.

First pitcher ever to pitch 2 no-hitters in the same road stadium. Congrats JV!

It was 0-0 after 8, and Astros 3B hit a 2 run 2-out bomb. Rest is history. 1 of just 6 who have 3 no no's or more. With the Cy Young this season he goes from probable/possible hall of fame player to guarantee.

Damn.

I didn’t even hear this on the regular news yesterday.

Must’ve been burning/sinking boats, and a big ass hurricane, because this a pretty big deal. Hey
