The Lions lose a lot on special teams with Steve Longa going in IR with a torn ACL suffered against the Giants on Friday. Longa was a reserve linebacker but a core special teams player who was used on all four units. "As a special teams player, I'd say he's very tough, he's smart, very instinctual," Lions coach Matt Patricia said Saturday about Longa. "And those are some of the things that have been carrying over this year on defense also, which has been a positive that we've seen from him."

Matt Patricia: "We're going to try to continue to educate everybody on all the rules" when asked about the helmet rule. Said he thinks they are in the "same spot" and they are teaching to hit with their heads up and to "keep preaching" to put the shoulders in the game. Said they are in the education process now.
