Detroit Lions - Team Notes

Lions DT Tyrunn Walker (calf) is questionable for Week 1.
Walker practiced fully all week. It's not clear how questionable he is given the league's new injury rules. A'Shawn Robinson or Khyri Thornton would start if Walker doesn't play.

Kicking it: Prater's 43-yard FG saves Lions.
Detnews

Before this season, the Lions had trailed by 1-8 points in fourth quarters a league-high 66 times since drafting Matt Stafford in 2009. They won 30.3 percent of them, which is above the 28.8 percent league average.
But because there have been so many of them (and so many defeats), it's easy for Lions fans to feel dread in those situations. Whatever the case, this comeback has to feel sweet in Detroit.

The Detroit Lions can never make it easy. Matt Prater's game-winning field goal redeemed his missed extra point and saved a day for an offense that looked sharp and smart throughout.
Matthew Stafford appeared comfortable and confident throughout, hitting backs, receivers and tight ends in a 39-35 road win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Lions collapse, then come back to win a wild one in Indianapolis.

Matthew Stafford completed 31-of-39 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns in the Lions' Week 1 win over the Colts.
Things looked slightly bleak for Stafford when the Lions opened the game with back-to-back rushing scores, but he went to work as the Colts mounted a comeback in this 39-35 shootout.
Stafford was extremely efficient, moving the offense at will against Indianapolis' injury-depleted defense and finding Theo Riddick, Ameer Abdullah, and Eric Ebron for red-zone touchdowns.
Over the course of the season, Stafford has one of the NFL's softest pass-defense schedules and should be locked into lineups as an every-week QB1. He'll square off with a weak Titans pass defense next.

Theo Riddick rushed seven times for 45 yards and a touchdown and caught 5-of-5 targets for 63 yards and another touchdown in the Lions' Week 1 win over the Colts.
This was an ideal matchup for Riddick due to the Colts' lack of foot speed at inside linebacker, where 33-year-old D'Qwell Jackson patrols the middle of the field.
Riddick capitalized and then some and even shined on his carries, ripping off two critical runs on the Lions' final drive to set up Matt Prater's game-winning field goal. Riddick owners might want to consider selling high after this one, however. Riddick's two TDs were fluky for a player who has never been a big-time touchdown scorer, and nor has Riddick ever been as successful as a rusher as he was on Sunday. We'd bet against this box-score effort being a sign of things to come.

Ameer Abdullah rushed 12 times for 63 yards and caught 5-of-5 targets for 57 yards and a touchdown in the Lions' Week 1 win over the Colts.
The Colts' slow-footed linebackers had no answers for Abdullah, who did work in the middle of the field. His touchdown catch occurred just after Theo Riddick exited the game with what was feared to be a concussion, although Riddick did return.
Abdullah is a dynamic back whose role is still concerning because Riddick hogs so much passing-game usage and Dwayne Washington has emerged as the Lions' goal-line specialist.
Abdullah gets another plus draw in Week 2 versus Tennessee, but he remains more of an RB2/flex than the borderline RB1 he produced as against the Colts' barely-there defense.

Marvin Jones secured 4-of-10 targets for 85 yards in the Lions' Week 1 win over the Colts.
He led the Lions in Week 1 targets and also made the biggest play Detroit produced all day in the passing game, good for 32 yards.
Golden Tate came out on top in receptions with seven.
Jones is the superior big-play threat and should lead the team in receiving yards most weeks. Jones will be a WR3 play with WR2 upside when the Lions take on the Titans in Week 2.
