Detroit Lions - Team Notes

Lions placed DE Wallace Gilberry (abdomen) on injured reserve.
Gilberry had yet to register a sack on 126 snaps. He has only 3.5 quarterback takedowns over his past 36 games. His roster spot has been taken by Armonty Bryant.

Lions claimed DE Armonty Bryant off waivers from the Browns.
Bryant is in legal limbo, but the Lions will take all the help they can get for their reeling defense. Wallace Gilberry is headed to injured reserve. Bryant tallied 5.5 sacks last season, and should immediately contribute as a situational pass rusher.

Matthew Stafford said he's impressed with what Carson Wentz has done so far this season. He remembers what it was like for him as a rookie, when he was learning every game

Matthew Stafford said he wishes he didn't show the emotion he did toward Golden Tate after the first half INT against Chicago. Said he's moved on from it.

Jim Caldwell says his level of concern is "none" when it comes to Harold Nash's conditioning program when it comes to the amount of injuries Detroit has. The Patriots also had issues with injuries last year with Nash running the program.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell made it sound like Zach Zenner could get the ball a bit more. Detroit's running backs are pretty beat up.

New Lions DE Armonty Bryant said Cleveland releasing him caught him by surprise "a lot, actually." He said the release was "unfortunate."
Bryant said he spoke with the Lions coaching staff and front office "quite a bit" about his prior issues and that his goal in Detroit is to "clean up my act a little bit."
He said he knows he has to earn the trust of coaches in the NFL again. The Lions claimed Bryant off waivers Tuesday and Lions HC Jim Caldwell said the team did their research on him before claiming him.

In light of what Odell Beckham Jr. said recently,
Lions QB Matthew Stafford was asked if there were times he didn't enjoy playing football. He said nope, he likes everything about it.

Detroit getting another referee involved in a past Lions controversy.

In their game against the Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions were assigned the official in charge of calling the phantom face mask penalty that led to Aaron Rodgers? game-winning touchdown.
The following week, the Lions were assigned Tony Corrente, the official that blew the ending of the Lions-Seahawks game in 2015.
This week, Detroit will see another official that was at the center of a past controversy involving the Lions: The Lions official this week...Pete Morelli -- who was the referee in the Cowboys-#Lions playoff game after the 2014 season.
That game, as you probably remember, was infamously affected by a pass interference call on the Cowboys that was strangely picked up after the call had already been announced to the stadium.
Of course, there are so many officiating incidents with the Lions, it?s probably harder for the NFL to find a crew that doesn?t have a blemished history with Detroit.

Matthew Stafford has lost a league-high 143 passing yards this season due to drops (not even factoring in potential yards after the catch).

Lions worked out veteran G/T Garrett Reynolds and DL/OT Brian Mihalik.

Pride Of Detroit PODcast: Mythbusters edition. What do you do with the coaches? 79 minutes.

This week on the PODcast.
A tough loss in Chicago with no real positives to take away this time. You know what went wrong, but we put the final bow on it.

Another word on Golden Tate and his performance.

You know what? We still own the Bears.

Mythbusters! We decided to bust some myths about the Lions. Up first: ?Firing the coach midseason will reinvigorate the team,? ?the referees are out to get the Lions,? and ?The Fords must sell this team to a winner.?

Rage Corner is given over solely to addressing the omnipresent nihilists, the Same Old Lions ?fans.?

Wally?s World, where Wally is mad at Jim Bob Cooter.

A reading of Steve Young?s encounter with a referee who wants his daughter to go on a date.

The draft value of Jabrill Peppers, the standout defensive back at Michigan right now, and whether the Lions should target him in the first round.

How much control do fans have over the losing culture?
