In addition to the 17 unrestricted free agents, the Lions also have four restricted free agents in WR TJ Jones, OL Zac Kerin, DE/LB Brandon Copeland and RB Zach Zenner. The club can reach a deal with any of these players like usual, or place a qualifying offer on him. There are three types of offers: First, second and original round. If Detroit were to lose the player, it would be compensated an extra draft choice in the round it designated.

The Lions also have six exclusive rights free agents in DT Christian Ringo, DE Kerry Hyder, QB Jake Rudock, WR Jace Billingsley, P Kasey Redfern and DT Rodney Coe. These players can be offered one-year deals that are not guaranteed, which means there's no real downside for the team. These players are basically locked in for next year if the Lions want them back.

Detroit DE Ezekiel Ansah was named the NFC's defensive player of the week after his three sacks in the season finale against Green Bay. A
nsah had six sacks over the last two weeks of the season -- possibly the healthiest he had been all year. He is one of the bigger questions for the Lions this offseason, too, as he is set to become a free agent in March unless Detroit uses the franchise tag on him or signs him to an extension.
When GM Bob Quinn was asked about Ansah's future on Monday, he said while a decision on Ansah is a "critical" one this offseason, a lot might depend on the new head coach and defensive scheme he wants to run.

Pride Of Detroit Blog PODcast sets some resolutions and hunts for coaches. 74 minutes.
We discuss all six candidates that have appeared in the early coaching search.

This week on the PODcast
There was a game played on Sunday. I don?t know how many remember so I enforce some talk about it.

We talked last week about the end of Jim Caldwell, so this episode is focused heavily on the six early names that have appeared in the Lions coaching search, from Matt Patricia to Winston Moss to Mike Vrabel. We cover all those names and what we like and don?t like about each.

Ryan ducks out before the New Year?s Resolutions and mailbag, so we bring International Editor of Mystery Kyle Yost, who joined us after finishing some delicious fruit salad and helps pick through your reader questions.
