Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

August 23 in Tigers and mlb history:

1916: Ty Cobb goes from first to third on a teammate's single to LF, then swipes home when A's 3B Charlie Pick holds the ball. Detroit wins 10 - 3.

1936: Seventeen-year-old Bob Feller makes his first start and strikes out 15, one less than the American League record, as Cleveland beats St. Louis, 4 - 1.

1962: Steve Boros matches the American League record for most errors in an inning by a 3B with 4, but Detroit beats Cleveland 8 - 5 as Al Kaline hits two home runs.

1963: Warren Spahn's 601st start is a modern National League record. Grover Alexander had the previous record of 600. The Braves beat the Dodgers, 6 - 1.

1981: The Minnesota Twins traded Ron Jackson to the Detroit Tigers for a player to be named later. The Detroit Tigers sent Tim Corcoran (September 4, 1981) to the Minnesota Twins to complete the trade.

1983: The Detroit Tigers purchased Glenn Abbott from the Seattle Mariners for $100,000.

2000: At Comerica Park, fans flee their seats as swarms of small insects invade the stands during the 1st inning. The six-legged pests do not affect the players, and the game continues uninterrupted with the Tigers edging the Mariners, 6 - 5.

2007: The Detroit Tigers traded Craig Monroe and cash to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later. The Chicago Cubs sent Clay Rapada (August 30, 2007) to the Detroit Tigers to complete the trade.

2012: The San Diego Padres selected Thad Weber off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.

Brad Ausmus: 'You've got to throw strikes and you've got to get outs'.
espn

“You want to pitch in the big leagues you have to throw strikes. You have to get outs and you have to do it on a consistent basis. You want to give young guys some rope to grow and learn, but it can’t last forever.”

That message wasn’t for Boyd’s ears only. Since August 6, the Tigers are 3-1 in games started by Justin Verlander. His ERA is 2.48 and opponents are hitting just .165 against him.
The rest of the rotation, since Aug. 6, is now 0-10. Those pitchers have allowed 63 runs in 59 2/3 innings, with opponents hitting .354.

Brad Ausmus? future in doubt.
The Tigers manager?s future employment remains in doubt.

With the season thoroughly lost and only moral victories available, there is little pressure surrounding the Detroit Tigers. Winning or losing doesn?t really matter at this point. Because of that, for the first time in his managing career, the microscope has been removed from Brad Ausmus.

Ausmus has been a constant source of frustration for fans through his four years as the Tigers? manager. The calls for his firing have been so constant that he debated using the nickname ?Fire? on his MLB Players? Weekend jersey.

But this is not the scenario that most saw Ausmus? future being decided in. Most saw him being fired in a blaze of glory after another near-playoff miss or mismanagement of a bullpen. Certainly not with a wimper after a season he had little control over.

Al Avila predictably deflected any questions about his future on Monday morning with 97.1 The Ticket. With Ausmus? managerial record standing at 304-304 and a full rebuild on the horizon, it wouldn?t be shocking to see the team choose either direction. But the decision will be telling about the future philosophy of the team.

Former Detroit Tiger farmhand Chad Green excelling with New York Yankees.
Freep

Green is one of two pitchers ? with right-hander Luis Cessa ? the Tigers traded for left-handed reliever Justin Wilson two off-seasons ago.
At the time, Green was a starting pitcher. He stayed in that role, starting in Triple-A Columbus to begin the season, until New York called him up for their bullpen in May. Since then, he has been lights-out, ranking among the American League?s best relievers, and might have found a home as a reliever.
