No I would agree that MSU didn't have their best game. I don't think MSU's best game has them getting shut out and beaten by 30+ points by Bama at all. Similarly, I think OSU's best game results in them beating MSU probably 9/10 times. Sometimes teams have bad games and I think it played a role in MSU even getting to the CFP.

BTW, I'm fine with all of that because I don't think I could stomach another OSU national title which I think was fairly likely had they won that MSU game.

What is thus mythical best game from osu? Was it when they were down to VA tech until their qb got hurt? The games they snuck by northern Illinois at home? Indiana?

I'll buy that they're an underachieving complacent team. They hadn't beaten anyone good until the last two games. Just because they trucked you guys in AA and a depleted nd team doesn't mean they should be put on a pedestal

We beat you guys already, we got a laugh out of OSU whipping your asses for the umpteenth time in a row but we didn't need the vicarious win, it was just a game between two teams we beat

Those two games, Michigan and Notre Dame, were better than anything I saw from MSU, Michigan or Iowa all season. So yes that is what I'm basing it on.

Not only that, your two biggest victories occurred in two games where you lead for exactly 0 minutes. Sometimes you just get a little lucky. Good for you, unfortunately it ran out against Alabama.

OSU was objectively the better team over the course of the year. A last second field goal in a game that you led for exactly 0 minutes in a game where OSU played, by any reasonable observation, horribly is not a compelling suggestion that MSU was definitely the better team.

As for osu, we killed them in terms of yardage, they had 5 first downs all game, we gifted them 7 points with an unforced turnover. They also got to play us without cook, in that game, osu had a ton of good luck on their side. We had horrible luck.

As for the order that the points were scored, that's insignificant. If we had a field goal on our first drive against osu and took a knee late it's still the exact same performance.

Let's hear more about how we got lucky against OSU. No cook and a gift td due to swirling wind on a punt, what was our good luck?

Also, you could make the same different game argument for msu. The team that showed up in Dallas wasn't the same that showed up in Columbus or in the title game, or does that only work for OSU?

I remember a lot of times from 2000 to 2007 that MSU fans would regularly come on the Michigan boards the week of the Michigan-OSU game and post about how OSU would beat Michigan. This would happen every year that Michigan would beat MSU. Then if OSU beat Michigan, which they normally did in that timeframe, MSU fans would come to the Michigan board and rip on Michigan fans for losing to OSU, even though Michigan beat MSU that year.
