I’m only watching on gameday, but it looks like the A’s have had some real luck with babip at this point in the game.

well, so far Harris' two free agent pitching additions have been less than stellar.

Luck as well; a triple ground ball that was just fair, and bounced all over the place in the outfield corner, a bloop single, another single on a bouncer hit into the ground with no speed, and a hbp on a pitch that was barely inside. Then a home run on a high fast ball that was borderline out of the zone.

you are describing typical baseball ;)

Flaherty felt like a real waste and then he had a good spring.

I understand we've been killed by injuries but signing a guy like Flaherty to send Manning down is retarded.

No, because none of those were “flat out hits” except the home run. That is why we have the babip stat. The only hard hit ball was the home run. Now, if we want to talk about our offense, there is a bit more to talk about in non-execution.

We currently have no injuries (which is why we have no room for Manning). Just wait. Flaherty was also fine in his first start.

The point is everyone has GB singles, bloop hits - hits that aren't hit hard. Every game, every year. Tigers and all the other 29 other teams. BABIP doesn't dintinguish between hard hit and not hard hit.

But we do distinguish between the two in the end. The point is, there are times when they add up into runs, and times when they don’t. The A’s just had a lucky streak there; the Tigers haven’t; though the Tigers are shooting themselves in the foot right now with poor choices at the plate.
