Damn, I swear to God, that I thought of you and your family first thing after the first reports came in. Atheist or no, I prayed to "the fairy in the sky" for your family's safety.
Not making a religious statement, just happy you and your family remained safe.
Take care Michchamp and stay safe. Need all the Michigan fans we can get.
glad to hear everything is OK with you and your family
Holy crap MC.. sorry I forgot you were down there . Be safe !! Stay safe !!! Move back to michigan !!!
thanks guys.
My gut instinct was that everything would be okay if we stayed in place, and there is considerable risk in trying to travel during a flood situation. most drownings occurred in cars.
I did the math, and even at the highest point of the predicted crest of the local river, our house still had 4' of elevation (at ground)... river was predicted to crest at 57' (normally it's only 13' above sea level... 44' of additional water!), and our house was at 61'. but as of monday afternoon the rain kept coming with no end in sight, and there are other creeks and bayous nearby that drain into it, so I was concerned we very well could see our first floor flood if the rain kept falling. and the local authorities said our roads might stay unpassable for days. we had extra food and water, but were concerned by some reports that it would take weeks to drain.
so I found the safest route out of Houston using google maps & wayz. we moved everything to the 2nd floor we could and headed out. was scary as shit for a while, but we made it to San Antonio, where it was sunny and dry.
neighbors texted us updates, and as of yesterday when I saw harvey had moved off quicker than expected, I knew we were fine.
we probably should've stayed put in the end, but whatevs.
