Link. Hmmm... I guess they figure stealing land from Palestinians and shooting Palestinian kids for throwing rocks isn't enough of a challenge, so they want to fight the adherents of another major religion.

Extremist Israeli groups have on several occasions in recent weeks attempted to storm the Stella Maris Monastery and Catholic church in the northern port city of Haifa, Israel, prompting Christians to take measures to protect the holy site.
...

Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, who was just named a cardinal by Pope Francis and serves as the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem, has raised concerns that Christians are increasingly enduring persecution in the Holy Land. He said the current administration of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has created a political climate in which acts of aggression are tolerated.

?The frequency of these attacks, the aggressions, has become something new,? Pizzaballa said during Easter week,

Pierbattista Pizzaballa is the most Italian name a Bishop can have.

Anyways, maybe he can get the Pope to declare another Crusade for old times' sake?

These extremists sound like really bad people - no guns, knives or suicide bombers. I thought the Israelis were genocidal bigots, wouldn't Israeli extremists be even more murderous? Sneaking into a monestary doesn't sound all that "extreme" - it's not like they're indiscriminately hurling rockets from hospitals and schools into densely populated areas...

And stealing land from Palestinians? When was Palestine a country? Who was there first? Isn't that the argument for giving land back to the native Americans? Coming from a guy who thinks we should give land back to native tribes, this seems a bit hypocritical and antiSemitic (par for the course).

Wasn't Israel the Jewish homeland for 1,500 years before Islam was even a religion? By your standard, the Romans have a more legitimate claim to Israel than the Palestinians.
