Tigers sign Liriano

Odds are good another team takes a claim/chance on him. While he has had control issues, it is hard for teams to pass on another LHP and his still has an option left.

Could we put a claim on him? I don't see why not since he was no longer our guy.

2018 for Jairo Labourt:
February 23: DFA by #Tigers
March 2: Claimed off waivers by #Reds
March 4: Claimed off waivers by #Athletics
March 12: DFA by #Athletics
March 14: Released by #Athletics
March 28: Signed by #Tigers

for all of you who were worried about losing this guy...looks like nobody else wanted him too badly

Two teams had claimed him, after being released. What does that say?

And because the Tigers "lucked" out in getting him back as a minor league deal does not discount the fact this was a bad move.

it says two teams claimed him and he wasn't worth keeping.

So why did they even bother putting in a claim in the first place?

See if he was worth it I guess. Then realized he wasn't. So maybe it was okay Detroit released him in the first place? 3 teams had to release a player over Labourt. Many other teams might have been interested in him, just not enough to release a player for him.

But the primary object still stands. The Tigers released him for a player they could have signed to a minor league contract. They still might have released Labourt, but it was stupid for a rebuilding team to release a then 23 year old lefty for a 34-year old coming off 2 horrible seasons.

I agree...when it happened, I thought it was stupid to release a 23-year-old lefty for Liriano. Now it looks like it wasn't such a bad risk. They got the prospect back and Liriano is in the starting rotation at the beginning of the season. Signing free agents like Liriano is what I wanted the Tigers to do this past offseason. Sign veteran players that could turn into trade chips at the deadline. Now let's hope that Liriano pitches like he did this spring.

It's not Ignorance. I don't know why the trade was made and it's subsequent release but it didn't screw us somehow. We got the guy back and imo I don't think it really matters if we did or didn't.

3 teams tells me one thing (unless they're all Avila) is that he isn't worth much.

Monday Morning Quarterbacking.

It worked out in the end. = LUCK. Trading John Smoltz = NOT LUCKY. But at the time of the deal and what immediately transpired, it was a great deal.

The Tigers waived a 23 year old pitcher prospect over a 29 year old pitcher "prospect" (Chad Bell) for a 34-year old pitcher without a good year in 2 years.

Your premise that a half year performance for a FA pitcher will net anyone of value is flawed. Had we lost Labourt, we would be hoping for a prospect of similar worth. Makes no sense.

Now had they waived Chad Bell....then maybe.

Is Labourt your cousin or something or little brother?

Серьезно, это была боль в заднице, чтобы перевести.
