Miguel Cabrera Wins the 2012 AL MVP Award.
Congratulations Miguel for a Triple Crown and MVP Season.
Miguel is the first Tigers position player to be the AL MVP since Hank Greenberg in 1940.

Miggy first on 22 of 28 ballots. A mandate, if you will.
Cabrera, who was second on the other six ballots, finished with 362 points to 281 for Trout.
It is the 10th time a Tigers player has been named MVP by the BBWAA.
Previous Tigers winners are: Mickey Cochrane (1934), Hank Greenberg (1935, 1940), Charlie Gehringer (1937), Hal Newhouser (1944, 1945), Denny McLain (1968), Willie Hernandez (1984) and Justin Verlander (2011).

Cabrera's off season awards haul has been impressive. He has won the Hank Aaron Award, the Luis Aparicio Award and a Silver Slugger, along with being named Sporting News and Players Choice Player of the Year. The cherry on top is AL MVP.

im a little shocked, one of the LA guys had Cabrera first! The 6 first place votes were both boston guys (fuck em), one LA guy, one TB guy, Jim Caple, and Assface Passan. fuck em all.
 
My question to HighHeatStats...
Some of you guys are able to go to baseball reference and see how many players had certain minimum number stats.
I was wondering how many players had the stats that Cabrera had this year;
So with at least a minimum of 109 runs, 205 hits, 40 doubles, 44 homeruns, 139 rbi, .330 BA, .606 Slugging, 165 OPS+ 375 total bases, 139 Runs Created, 84 XBH?s, 57 adjusted batting runs, 5.6 adjusted batting wins, 6.0 Situ. Wins Added (WPA/LI).
How many times have these numbers been duplicated by a player in a season?
Curious how many of those times it happened before and after the alleged era with the steroids/peds. Thanks in advance if this can be done.

In answer to your question I have found that only Lou Gehrig (1927 and 1934) has matched or beaten all of those stats. There is no data available for Gehrig on WPA/LI.

Cabrera was actually better in 2011. He posted higher BA, OBP, OPS, OPS+, 2B, runs scored, batting runs, WAR, fewer strikeouts and more walks.

I asked keith law, the espn twitter handle, and jeff passan how Cabrera's ass taste.
 
Nice to see Miggy finally get his. He's been dominant for a decade and it would have been unfortunate if he somehow lost this year. Credit to the voters. Trout just picked the wrong year. Last year he probably would have won. I heard Wojo on the radio on my way home from work and he said this would be like giving the MVP to someone else the year Bonds hit 72 home runs. You had to give it to the triple crown winner this year.

We had 3 bats in the line up that were great and then we had 5 or 6 other guys that everyone wanted replaced. Strange.
