AFCA Coaches' Poll
Tickets

Grand Valley State remained #2 in the latest AFCA Coaches' poll that was released Monday from Waco, Texas. Minnesota State held the top spot at #1 with 819 points and 29 first-place votes, followed by Grand Valley State with 780 points. Ferris State is third with 770 points, West Georgia fourth with 708 and Ouachita Baptist fifth with 665. In addition, GVSU is #2 in the Massey College Football and Hero Sports D2 rankings.

#2 Grand Valley State (6-0, 3-0) will host #3 Ferris State (6-0, 4-0) in college footballs marquee matchup Saturday (Oct. 13). GVSU is 16-8 when facing a top five opponent since 2001. The Lakers have started the season 6-0 for the 12th time in the last 18 years and the third time in head coach Matt Mitchell's career. GVSU started 6-0 in 2010, 2016 and 2018 under Mitchell.

Grand Valley State leads the all-time series with Ferris State by a 29-18-1 margin. The Lakers are 16-7 versus the Bulldogs in the last 23 meetings and 14-10 all-time at Lubbers Stadium. Saturday's meeting will be the 12th time that either Grand Valley State or Ferris State have been ranked #1 or #2 when meeting, with the Lakers holding a 10-1 advantage. An unranked GVSU team claimed a 36-17 victory over #1 Ferris State in 1996 at Lubbers Stadium. Grand Valley State and Ferris State are 3-3 in the last six meetings when both are ranked since 2008.

Grand Valley State is the winningest FBS, FCS and Division II program in the country, boasting a record of 397-142-3 (.735) in 48 years of playing football. In addition, GVSU is also the winningest GLIAC program all-time with a 289-72-3 mark (.798). GVSU has won four NCAA Division II Football National Championships, made 19 playoff appearances, won 17 league titles, captured nine NCAA regional titles, made nine trips to the NCAA DII semifinals and six to the NCAA DII title game.

The Lakers are well on their way to leading the NCAA DII ranks in attendance for the 7th consecutive year. After three games GVSU has drawn 40,502 in total attendance for an average of 13,501. The single-game record of 16,889 (2016) that watched the Lakers claim a 35-23 victory over the Bulldogs in Lubbers Stadium could be in jeopardy tonight.

FSU wins 35-31.. if both run the table they will meet in the playoffs maybe.
