Arizona anti Gay ban

Basing laws to protect selective interpretation of a 2000 year old book is ludicrous. The bible condemned homosexuality but it also mentioned sacrificing children to god, should that be legal? Are you infringing on religious freedom by preventing someone from killing their first born?

I have no idea what point you're trying to make to me sbee, I'm just saying where he said the final bigotry part not being homophobia...

I'm sure if you asked him, Byco would tell you he's discriminated against for being catholic/religious.

As far as the rest, meh...wasn;t really delving that deep into it.

Just pointing out the absurdity of using religious freedom to justify our prejudice.

As for byco being discriminated for being Catholic, that's also wrong but being Catholic shouldnt give you the right to discriminate.

The Catholic Church is not obligated to marry anybody. It never has been, and never will be.

unfortunately the issue isn't about whether or not the catholic church is marrying gay couples, it is others using religion (catholic or otherwise) to say it is illegal for anyone to marry gays. the government cannot force a religious entity to perform a marriage against their will; however, the religious entity cannot turn around and force the government to not allow anyone else to perform the marriage. they have the right to control what they do (obviously within common sense boundaries that do not violate laws like murder, rape, etc) but not the right to control others from doing something.

it would be like a church forcing a different religion's temple to not perform a prayer or other religious act, they cannot do that just like they cannot force the government to outlaw gay marriage. they can try to verbally influence, but cannot force the issue.

the only way a business could possibly be allowed to not sell wares to gays would be if they are run by a religious non-profit organization. these stores trying to ban gays are definitely for-profit businesses, therefore they cannot discriminate based on religious grounds.

those are my views on it anyway.

gay marriage is on the way, it will be the law of the land within 10 years. I think there are 40 court cases now challenging marriage bans, it will happen soon.

my opinion is that states shouldn't issue marriage licenses, just civil union licenses and those are available to anyone, simply a legal contract. your church or organization would then perform a marriage ceremony if that's your wish. everyone would be treated equally and we wouldn't have to define marriage

...

You are not paying attention to current events if you think that "homophobia," whatever that is, is the final bastion of bigotry to conquer in the world.

indeed. institutional racism is back on the table because Republitards have successfully gutted the VRA in many places.

so we have that to deal with again, as well as homophobia.

Were I in the wedding business I'd only hire my services to Catholics. I'd position, market and advertise my business that way because it's my preference. There would be enough other like businesses eager to fill the void I created and they would thank me for it. Same with the circumstances of so-called gay weddings. I am not preventing anyone from having a wedding; I am simply choosing those I want to work.

kinda funny... when I was reading this on my phone, I thought this was posted by tinsel for some reason. I was confused... thinking... where's he going with this? I don't see the joke? what's his angle?

anyways, I saw this on FB, and thought it was funny:

Nice to see at least ONE RELIGION has taken the message of Christ to heart, and tries to live by it...

Non-profit as the dividing line. That's not a bad idea for deciding who gets to make claims regarding religious beliefs. But Catholic hospitals are considered non-profit aren't they? (Not concerned regarding discrimination, regarding healthcare coverage.)

I don't think they perform abortions at those.

But if they were asked to... if a pregnant woman was rushed into one, with complications requiring an abortion to save the her life, and she and her family were hysterically begging the doctor to do so... they should just let her die because God says so. Otherwise, when they themselves die, they will go to a place so horrible, no one can even describe it to you or me, or explain how it works because it is just that bad, trust me, I read it in the Bible, and I need no further corroboration of Biblical fact - even in life and death situations - because I am a man of faith.

Now let us bow our heads and pray in Latin, the true language of Christ... "EEE MO NA MEEE MO, SANCTUS JEHOVAH BA NOVA KA BLOVA"

i'm not arguing that gay marriage should be legal, nor that gay rights need to be equal to everyone else. i will never understand why the "all men are created equal" and subsequent equal rights amendments are still not honored the way they should be.

however, the government will NEVER be allowed to force a specific religious entity to perform the marriage, not even by using claims of discrimination as the basis for their forcing it. there are plenty of other entities that will perform the ceremony that there is zero reason to force a religious entity to perform a ceremony against their religious beliefs and separation of church and state needs to be honored as equally as possible. the solution is government entities can perform the gay marriage if all else fails.

It got vetoed for one reason..they would have switched cities for SB XVIX. Arizona couldn't afford to lose a SB. Big money.

Yeah, I am sure you are speaking for Christ here. Do you ever get tired of judging people by different standards than your own self?.
