B1G coach of the year

I think Brady Hoke has a great shot at it. If I had to guess, I would say it's between Hoke and Dantonio. I would give the nod to Hoke because nobody was expecting Michigan to do much this year, while MSU had a lot of players returning from a co-B1G team. Nebraska was also "supposed" to be good this year. maybe it will be a co-B1G coach of the year, Brady Hoke & Greg Mattison.

It should be just Mattison.

I agree. What a HUGE difference he has made. If Michigan finishes 10-2 they should just build a bronze statue of the man outside of the stadium...

What? Coach of the year? I guess I don't see where Hoke has done anything extraordinary this season. I expected 8 wins and most of the people I talked to expected 8 wins. They've done exactly what was expected of them. I would've expected 8 wins from the prior administration. I don't know if they would have delivered, nonetheless, they have yet to exceed any of my expectations.

The defensive numbers are better. The offensive numbers are worse. The team is playing much more disciplined football and there is no circus side act during the weeks between games. That is all nice, but a coach doesn't win coach of the year for those things.

If they beat Nebraska or OH, then i'll be happier. I think Hoke looked kind of clueless yesterday until DG hit his 1 good pass. Maybe it was just his facial expression. I don't know.

Of course, OH lost to Purdue, so now Michigan SHOULD beat them, but any win over OH would be a big deal at this point thanks to the last 10 games against them.

I'd go for this, except I don't think they give the award to assistants.

If you can't tell how much better this team is with hoke than it would have been with rich rod..then wow.

The scores would have had more numbers and would've been closer, but I think the number of W's would still be the same.

Whether they are better or worse than last year, I still expected Michigan to win 8 games. They've done exactly what we expected.

Yeah, you expected Michigan to win 8 games. Here's the problem. There's still another 3 games left in the season (bowl game included). They could end up winning 10, which far exceeds EVERYONE's expectations. If you said going into the year Michigan would win 10 games, you would have to be a blind slappy. It's not the fact that they've done what you expected, it's the fact that they LOOK like a football team again. Rich may have very well have won 8 games this year, but they would have been disgusting, and would not have been progress within the program.

Winning 31-14 agaisnt a better illinois team than last year vs winning in OT at home, giving up 60 some pts.

Obviously the team is a ton better than it would of been without hoke.. Even if the w/l are what you expected.

You expected a defense to give up about 14pts a game?

I already said that the team and coaches now have a chance to prove our predictions wrong. I hope they do it.

I've already pointed out a lot of things that look better under Hoke than they did under Rod. Not only that, but they have a great recruiting class coming in. I just don't think you win coach of the year for that stuff. i think you win coach of the year for W's. I'll wait until after Michigan beats Nebraska AND OH before building the statue.

No. I already said that the numbers might be different. All those other numbers don't really matter, though. The only numbers that matter are W's and L's.

Is this Illinois team better than last year's? I don't think so.

You made it sound like you thought this team is no better than if rich rod was coaching still.

They have a chance to prove that they are with the games that are left.

I am not building a statue for him yet. But he has done more than we had ever dreamed with this team. That's why he should be a top nomination for big 10(12) coach of the year.

"No he hasn't. 8 wins is what I predicted. He has a chance to prove it in the next two games"

we have to win one or both of the next two games for hoke to win. 4-4 in the big 10 wouldn't win it for him.

I just think Hoke is as deserving as anyone. He convinced Mattison to come to Michigan. He coaches like a champion (not a screaming idiot). This team is playing sound fundamental defense, which is shocking. The offense is transitioning, and if everyone remembers the O under DickRod looked pathetic against B1G defenses last year. The team is a huge turn around from the last 3 years. What other B1G coach deserves it more?

Coach Hoke has to be the, or one of the, top candidates for the award. Even the games Michigan has lost they were in until the last few minutes (last play at Iowa). A win over either Nebraska or OSU, and a competitive game against the other, will solidify the award for Hoke. Michigan has a very good chance to win both of these games. I am hoping that they win both, especially the OSU game. MSU got clown stomped by Nebraska and has not played well on the road. D'antonio may be in the running, but I don't think it is close.

GO BLUE! BEAT THE CORNHUSKERS!
