That's quite a period of years...without looking it up, Abe Lincoln was 1865; Garfield was 1881 and McKinley was 1901 - anyway, it's right thereabouts for all three, I'm pretty sure...
I think it sounds longer than it really is. 1865 to 1901 is only 36 years. according to the wiki... Lincoln turned down later requests to meet presidents because of the three incidents.
also, the younger Lincoln was once ironically saved from death or certain severe injury by none other than John Wilkes Booth's brother. he had slipped on a train platform, and his coat got caught on something, and Booth pulled him back to his feet.
supposedly, Abraham Lincoln has no surviving descendents. the only one is disputed, as his father (Lincoln's grandson, I think) had a vasectomy prior to the date of conception, but the paternity was disputed in court and never settled. bummer.
ol' Abe Lincoln deserved better.
