Boban Marjanovic 3 years $21M

This deal really makes no sense. It's not the money. Anyone with a pulse seems to be getting 10+ million this year. Boban is actually a strong per-minute player, so on a team where he actually plays this contract will look perfectly fine.

But Boban has nowhere to play here. He a pure center, on a team that already has a star pure center and already has a backup pure center. That's not even getting into the fact that their first round pick (Ellenson) may end up at center too. This isn't 2005 where weakening the Spurs somehow gets us closer to a title. Stan really needs to have a trade in the works, because we are overloading on players that seem to be getting phased out of the league.

I've read he will be a Baynes replacement because he will be a RFA after next year and we probably won't be able to match a teams offer.

Baynes will certainly opt out next year, what with all the money getting thrown around. But it's still kind of pointless. By next year, Ellenson or even Leuer could be solid backups at center. Replacing 10-15 minutes of Aron Baynes should never have been a priority in the first place. Even if Boban earns the backup spot in 2017, we're basically burning 6 million this year. Suddenly we're not paying him 7 million a year for 3 years, we're paying 10 million a year for 2 years. That's bad cap management at best.

BOBAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude is sweet. Have you seen his hands?

According to 538 (and many other sources), Boban is actually the best free agent signing the Pistons had in terms of value. People that don't understand NBA salaries are losing their minds right now but that's ok. Fan opinions don't win games.

SVG has done well so far. People (I remember a few of you specifically) were shitting on him for trading away Augustin and Singler (LOL) for Reggie Jackson. A lot of crispy crow going around on that one. Marcus Morris was said to have a huge attitude problem and not worth the liability but looked like a model player his first year in Detroit. Tobias Harris on limited time with Detroit also looked like a fine addition to a young core of players. I'm willing to wait and see with SVG's next group of additions because he's given me zero question to doubt him thus far.
