Boehner resigns

I always felt empathy for him; having to stand up every day against unyielding crazy political extremists.

And that was just in his own party's caucus.

I'd like to say good riddance, but you know the old saying about "The devil you know...."

yeah... he was definitely not an extremist or crazed ideologue. just your run-of-the-mill sleazy, hard-drinking, chain-smoking hedonistic politician.

Yeah, if you were to look up the term "Career Politician" you could find no better example this side of Ted Kennedy and Strom Thurmond.

My buddy on the NSC said that working with Boehner was always a pain because the dude couldn't go five minutes without taking a cigarette break.

not that there's anything wrong with that.

The president had some nice things to say about Boehner.

The CNN talking heads are speculating that he would be facing another intra-party fight for party leadership with the more conservative wing of the caucus; which Boehner feels would be detrimental to the party and the House.

Not to absolve him of any contributions he made to the current dysfunctional state of congress, but it really seemed like a no-win situation for that position. It sounded like he wouldn't have survived through this government shutdown threat anyway.

Not crazy enough for the batshit crazy tea party and religious wings (no surprise seeing all the "RINO" comments today), and too far right, often fighting with the president, for anyone on the left to respect him. Not free of blame, but he was probably a victim of the polarized state of things today. I'm not surprised that someone in that position would drink often.

I haven't had a drop of liquor since last Wednesday the 16th. Just for fun.

been drinking all week at lunch... today's my last day at this job.

couple weeks off, then we move down to Tejas.

LOL ...I haven't really missed it honestly. Once I get past the 'Happy Hour' time of day it's cake. And it really isn't that hard other than habit at HH.

But this isn't forever, though it has made running in the mornings a whole new experience and I have been sleeping like a baby every night.

That said ...it is FRIDAY ...and tomorrow is football ....and so is Sunday..

:cheers::cheers:

Okay, just made a nice cocktail for this sunny, Indian Summer day in Denver!

I hear you. I hardly ever drink at home. It's not something I consciously avoid, it just doesn't really cross my mind - my kids are still at ages where they want to play with dad so I pretty much get sucked into the play room or the back yard from the time I get home until dinner time. By the time they go to bed I'm too tired to start drinking.

aww that's a nice story. you're not such a bad guy

I usually have a beer after work, and dinner and then we put the kids down and both fall asleep. It takes a Herculean effort to stay up past 10 PM now.

What a cluster fuck that party's House caucus is one week later.

How long before they all beg him to change his mind?

What? You don't think it was a good idea for Mccarthy to brag about how the plan to attack Hillary for email/Benghazi was 100% aimed at bringing down her poll numbers? Shocking!
