@jonmorosi: #Tigers acquire Infante and A Sanchez from Marlins

Not known yet who the Tigers gave up.

4:59pm: The teams also swap the picks they obtained in last week's competitive balance lottery, Peter Gammons of MLB Network tweets. The Marlins obtain prospects Rob Brantly and Brian Flynn along with Turner, Gammons tweets.

4:41pm: The Tigers have addressed their two most pressing needs with one trade, acquiring Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez from the Marlins in a deal that will send top pitching prospect Jacob Turner to Miami. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports first reported the trade, which suggests the Marlins are willing to look to 2013 and beyond following a disappointing 44-51 start to the season (on Twitter).

Rob Brantly, Brian Flynn and Jacob Turner for a rental? (Sanchez) and Infante, signed to 2013. it looks like win now time.

Omar's having a good season with the bat and Sanchez has K'd 110 in 121 IP. I like this trade.

Omar has fallen off and I like Sanchez k to walk ratio. I just always get a bit willy trading for a NL pitcher. I hope I'm dead wrong.

That NL inflated pitching stats always concern me a bit too, but with Omar I'm hoping they'll kick Raburn to the curb now.

Someone mentioned Omar OBP lowering the past few years but Omar has a better slugging % than he's had in 8 years.

Omar doesn't take hardly any walks...hence the lower OBP

Is that how it works ;-)

so Im told.....Delmon Young did a whole lecture nn it one night when he was half in the bag in a downtown bar...saw it on youtube :yay:

Im happy with the trade, Tigers are adding almost .100 pts in BA to the second base position, as well as more pop. Great defense from Infante as well. Sanchez will push Porcello to the #5 spot and Porcello is a really good #5 starter.

Good trade. Second base is set and we acquired a good pitcher. Who knows what Turner and this Brantly kid would be.....win now.

Takes Raburn and Porcello out of the playoff picture for fun now...

If the Tigers resign Anibal Sanchez, which they will, how much are the Tigers really giving up? They are giving up Turner, who is still another season or so away from the majors, Brantly, who is blocked by Avila, and Flynn, who is nothing more than a bullpen guy.

It isn't that much IMO for a good 2B to fill the black hole and a solid #3/#4 starter who will give you innings and give you a good chance to win every time he pitches.

Another piece that everyone seems to be overlooking is the fact that the Tigers now essentially have two 1st round draft picks, if they don't sign a Type A free agent this offseason, in which the Tigers could fill those spots left by Turner and Brantly with some high upside talent.

The Tigers have seemingly been drafting better as well the last couple years, so I'm not really that worried about the farm system.

I'm just glad they never got rid of Castellanos. So Far!!
