BREAKING: Tigers Aquire Infante and Sanchez

If the Tigers resign Anibal Sanchez, which they will

Pretty hard to say what they'll do seeing as the guy has not even put the uniform on yet.

He could end up another Washburn. And who knows who will be the GM after this season.

He could, but he isn't injured right now, so you can't say he will be another Washburn.

As for the GM comment, I'm pretty sure DD just signed an extension last season and has no reason to leave.

By Washburn I mean someone we trade for that's supposed to help us in the push to the playoffs, and then goes down in flames.

Wasn't the extension just for 1 year? and I was not implying DD would want to leave, but if we fall flat, I would not be surprised to see him fired.

Mr. I is a very loyal guy. I don't see any scenario where DD or Leyland would be fired after this year.

I believe Leyland's extension was for 1 year, but DD's was for 4 years.

Sanchez looks good on paper, but I'm a big skeptic of almost any NL pitcher coming over. We'll see...I'm not feeling to good about this. Hopefully this can put Detroit over the hump.

4 years or not if we fall flat this year DD has a lot to answer for.

Giving Inge that contract a couple years ago [Billy Beane says thanks Dave!]

Not persuing a second baseman in the offseason [Santiago/Raburn/Inge will be okay huh]

The horrible callups this season [Eldred, Ortega, Putkkonen, Weber,]

Letting Boesch and Young stink up our OF for too long without looking for a replacement.

Take a poll of the board and ask how many games everyone thinks we would be in first by if those issues had been looked at better.

I think DD has been pretty good, but no job in professional sports is safe.

1) Who would you have liked DD to get for 3B?

2) I'm not sure if you realize how many teams are missing a good 2B and if they have one, they lock them up. It isn't like there is a plethora of good 2B available around baseball and they rarely hit the open market

3) Horrible callups? What else is he supposed to do? Force a trade and over pay for someone that isn't worth it like Shane Victorino or Denard Span? I mean, DD can't make them good, those were his only options available at the time.

4) I agree with this, but do you seriously believe that DD hasn't been looking for an OF replacement? You are an idiot if you think he's been sitting on his ass for the last 3 months without looking for a replacement, but he isn't going to vastly over pay for an OF

5) The Tigers' don't have a deep farm, there is simply no way you can fill all those holes with quality players with the prospects we have. If we could, I'm sure we would and we would be known as the Yankees.

DD has done a great job, he has revitalized this team and put them in contention for a WS title with his trades, free agent signings, and drafting. Many of us fans don't really realize how lucky we truly are to have Dave and Jim running the show, both are considered some of the best at what they do.

(1) I'm not talking about signing someone else, I'm talking about the type of contract he offered Inge and it's length. It was a bad contract, plain and simple.

(3) Don't tell me those were the only options.

Wilk, Oliver, Bootcheck, etc could have been called up. but he went and called up Ortega from AA! not AAA, AA!

(4) I didn't say he was sitting on his ass, but he also let us have the 2 worst Corner OF'ers in the league for 3 months, than unacceptable when you're trying to win now.

I said I thought DD was doing a good job, I'm just saying good is not always enough.

1) Of course, but who else is there? Young, good 3B are a premium in this league and the best option at the time was Chase Headley who would have cost both Turner and Castellanos.

3) Do you not remember how bad Wilk and Oliver can be? Also, I'm not so sure what Ortega did wrong to offend you, but he only pitched in two games and only gave up one run, he wasn't terrible.

4) Boesch was supposed to be good this year, which he is looking to be now, so it was a waiting game with him. Delmon should have been gone awhile ago, but there aren't/wasn't many other options.

Ortega only gave up 1 run of his own, but he got brought into a game with inherited runners and blew that.

Ortega had no business being on an MLB roster.

What about Boesch when he came up. What about Berry...what about Austin Jackson coming over etc...there's plenty of good with the bad. At least he makes moves..

I was talking about this season where Mr. I basically said "Win now!".

Fair enough..he did get rid of Inge though, called up uknown Quentin Berry who alone has greatly sparked Detroits playoff chances, signed Prince Fielder who no matter how you view the teams make up is a top hitter in the game, gives Cabby a huge level of security and is producing, stuck with BB which seemed like a terible choice but may be paying dividends at the time it's most necessary. Believe he's hitting around .400 this month, Delmon likewise has caught on a bit.... I'm not saying he hasn't made bad decisions but like I said you take the good with the bad. I don't think he's done anything that could justify him being fired at seasons end.

This roster is better than last years and last year they lookedl ike serious contendars. He can only do so much. The players play the games.
