The facility, a nondescript warehouse on Chicago?s west side known as Homan Square, has long been the scene of secretive work by special police units. Interviews with local attorneys and one protester who spent the better part of a day shackled in Homan Square describe operations that deny access to basic constitutional rights.

Alleged police practices at Homan Square, according to those familiar with the facility who spoke out to the Guardian after its investigation into Chicago police abuse, include:

Keeping arrestees out of official booking databases.
Beating by police, resulting in head wounds.
Shackling for prolonged periods.
Denying attorneys access to the ?secure? facility.
Holding people without legal counsel for between 12 and 24 hours, including people as young as 15.
At least one man was found unresponsive in a Homan Square ?interview room? and later pronounced dead.

There's a torture facility in Texas, too. It's called Texas.

There's audio torture in Michigan, too. It's called Kid Rock music

Sheesus, they're giving away Kid Rock tickets on KABC radio; I guess he has a concert coming up here or something.

Anyways, I call in to talk about the topic, and the screener asks me "are you calling to win the Kid Rock tickets?"

"No, I don't want Kid Rock tickets."

He keeps his place up..don't know any of his songs..I heard he sold out his 6 shows at Pine Know in 10 min and added two more...

on one hand it's surprising these things could've gone on for as long as they allegedly have with not a single ?1983 lawsuit (i.e. a violation of civil rights) being filed against the police, or other legal issues being raised.

on the other hand, given the CPD's history (esp. with regard to black people) it's not surprising.

He has a lot of fans; plenty of people like to listen to crap...he isn't the only crap musician that a lot of people like to listen to....almost all of them are shit...

I have to say, after hearing Lady Gaga sing The Song of Music medley at the Oscars, I was like, "whoa..." I was blown away.

Oh, and watching her stagemanship too...just awesome...I don't really know much about her performances except that one...

If I won tickets to see her, I would go.

Kid Rock is promoting $20 concerts, with Foreigner touring with him..

From Daly to Daly to Rahm Emmanuelle, the Mayor of Chicago has long been clothed in immense power.

Yeah, Lady GaGa blows away Kid Rock. I didn't even realize it was her when the Mrs was watching the other night.

I bet GaGa has a "neighbor" who brags about living near her on a message board somewhere, too.

Rahm is in trouble... first runoff election in Chicago history coming up in April. (you would not be surprised to learn that I did not vote for him Tuesday, and I will not vote for him in April either.)

some in the national media are trying to portray this as a bad sign for Obama, and Hilary in 2016, but that's stupid. Rahm's policies & politics as mayor are FAR to the right of Obama's (and even Hilary's for that matter)... that's why people here aren't voting for him.

I typically wouldn't but we did watch that part. My son was complaining about all the singing and wanted to watch Hacking the System instead. The Mrs doesn't usually go for Oscars either, but it was what was on..

I was hoping to see you up there!

funny, last night here in MB a guy sat down next to me and ordered some food to go and had a beer while waiting. He was from Munster, IN and had been here for a taping of AFV - his son was a Top 3 video, called "Boy Pees on Wall" and it will air on April 12th.

He couldn't say what happened, but I got the feeling they didnt' win.

Also met some Sparty chick who works at Northrup-Grummond and grew up in the Detroit area. She was good to go ....told me about her divorce, gave me her business card and got an email from her this morning.

They actually pay regular extras to be seat fillers rather than letting any old John Q Public who doesn't know what he's doing into the show...they don't pay much; just the usual extra wage...

...with the extra work I've done in the past, and my Academy connections, I suppose I could do it, but then watching the Oscars would seem like just a job...

I like my couch; plus, Sunday, I had just driven home from Vegas - I think I have posted about the trip on other threads; my bumpkin cousin from rural Merrill (when we say this, we say them both rhyme with "squirrel"), who sadly lost his wife about a year ago, had always wanted to see Vegas, had he finally came out.

We had a great time; although unfortunately, I was unable to get him laid - my Tinsel Wing Man skills are waning as I age.

Ironically Vic, she does live near me...I needn't brag about it though. However, I did hear that she goes on message boards and brags about living near me.
