Not sure how much Calvin is guaranteed this year, I'm sure one of you can help with that info.

If re-signing Suh meant cutting ties with Calvin, would you be on board?

It's like over 20m for Calvin so no. Plus without CJ might as well get rid of Matt who would be more than useless..

Honestly, I'm not sure how much Calvin has in the tank. A year or two more of elite WR status? Nagging injuries are starting to pile up. If I was asked who I'd rather have, I'd say Suh. But with the cap situation, I think Calvin would be impossible to move.

If he's guaranteed over $20mil, it's a mute question. Thanks

If we could get a 1st for Calvin, free up that money for Suh, how'd you feel? Cal only has maybe 2-3 elite WR years left imo before he becomes just a good receiver. I'm also a Tate fan and think he can handle #1 WR duties. To answer my own question, I'd do it.

If it were an either or...Suh probably has a bigger impact on the team. I don't think either are worth what they are paid.

I think a lot of teams would be willing to trade for Cal, maybe not a 1st like I mentioned above but they'd love to have Cal. NO is a team that comes to mind.

A real good question would be Suh or Justin Houston.

They're not going to trade for CJ with that contract..at least I don't think so. Of course if money wasn't an issue I'd drop our QB first..

Nope, only because we'd still be paying stupid money to a DT.

Suh is undoubtedly a beast, but no DT gets paid that kind of money when they just don't impact the game on that level.

And before people argue.. yes, he impact the game, and probably more so than any defensive player we have. And if... IF.. the guy was putting up 20 sacks a year, sure, pay him ungodly money. But he's not.

We can find an above replacement level DT for significantly less.

The question isn't affordability, because I believe we can afford him if we really want to. But at what expense to the rest of the team?

Pretty sure we can find someone else to run 7 yard slants. They dont even help on cj anymore cause he never runs over 10 yards on a route. Suh all day.

But ya...they arent cutting/trading cj with that cap number. Mayhews ridiculous restructures means we have a suhesque decision to make on cj after 2016 I believe....only 4.8 mil dead cap after 2016.

The "ridiculous restructures" you're talking about helped this team reach playoffs and retain our top players while bringing in other impact players on both sides of the ball...Those "ridiculous restructures" had us a game away from winning our division and a controversial call away from winning our first playoff game since the 90's. So I ask you, how ridiculous were they? Mayhew did what had to be done to make this team a contender in 2014.

Before the season I would have thought this is a no brainer to keep Calvin. Now I lean towards keeping Suh under the premise that both are ridiculously expensive. I just don't expect to see Calvin very healthy as the years keep going. I know he has never practiced in the past anyways but he is always dinged up. I'd keep Suh now.

Only a true Lions fan would consider almost winning a Wild Card game a success. I will shed a tear for you my comrade as we raise our 2014 playoff banner with pride at Ford Field this fall.

Its not that they were restructured. ... it's how. Calvin's isn't too bad other than the 2016 24 mil cap hit and the 2018 18+ mil salary.

Suhs was retarded....left us with no leverage and a huge cap hit on his final year which makes him practically unfranchiseable.

Stafford has 1 good year and mayhew splooges all over him....then he fails to have a good season since. Thanks mayhew...staffords cap number is the same exact number on his rookie deal than it is on his new one for 2015. He could have been playing for a new deal next season.....maybe that woul moTivate him since winning doesn't seem to.

I would, I'm not convinced Calvin can stay healthy or 100% for a majority of the season. Money is wasted when he isn't playing or not as impactful as he could be. While that's a lot of money for a DT, I do think it's mostly justified in this case. He make it easier on the defense and I think things would fall apart without him. His troubles are well noted, but taking up double teams and beating them is something special, plus he's not some fatass DT that takes plays off.

Tough choice but I think it's worth it.

The biggest issue I have is Stafford, if it came down to it I'd rather keep Calvin and Suh. I see Stafford as the weakest link of the big 3.

I also wouldn't put too much blame on Mayhew in regards to the cap. This is the nature of restructures. I have more of a problem with his drafting than anything. 3 big contracts work provided you can put cheap talent around them. Picks like Ebron don't help.

Consider the results from this franchise the past 20yrs, yes I'd say this season was a success. Am I wrong?

Yep. 2011 you would be right. But since we made it then, ending the long drought..we need a playoff win. Playoff 1 and done are failure.

11 wins is great. But id feel better about it if we had any important wins.

Gb for the division loss
ne loss
ari loss
dal loss

I dont get too pumped about beating a bunch of shitty teams then losing every single time it matters most. Just means youre barely better than the shitty teams.

Normally I'd agree but not in this case. We brought in new coaches, coordinators and schemes to both sides of the ball. We went from a losing team, with a losing culture to being a controversial call away from getting a playoff W in year 1. Watching this team play, seeing a more disciplined football team, a team that never gave up, believed and a top ranked D, I'd say it was a success. Look at where we were last year at this time as a team compared to where we are now. Things are pointing up. As a Lion, that's a success.
