Out of all the reading I do on football, I never read anything about how the schedules are done...

Why is it we play Tampa on the road TWICE in two years? Why not have them at home?

I'm sure they run several scenarios through a computer. I'm more worried about 3 of 4 on the road to start the season for second year in a row.

not sure how they determine road/home but they rotate schedule. this year the nfc north plays the afc west and nfc south. Then we play two teams that are closest in record to ours in 2010.

Yeah I think we got that but why get the same team twice on the road.

Find out man :)

maybe it's because stafford has lost two openers in a row?

I was wondering why we open on the road again. This is like the 5th straight year I think.......

no, that was on the road. The last time we opened at home was in 2006 against Seattle.

Anyone know how they pick the opponent for the Thanksgiving Day game?

Or is it just random?

I remember hearing lots of talk that the NFL wanted different teams to play besides Detroit and Dullass, so how is it we always seem to end up playing GB or the Bears?

Thanksgiving games they try to maximize interest. So you noticed that when we were horrible we were going against the Colts, Patriots, etc. Now that we are competitive again it will go back to rivalries. When we become a great team you could see us going against another top echelon team.

Excellent, a football theory crafting thread!

I'm actually quite pleased.

We're also playing Dallas on the road for the 2nd consecutive year. If I had to guess, we're playing Tampa this season because we're playing the NFC South whereas we played them last season because they were the team from the other division with a similar record. With Dallas its vice versa. We played the NFC East last season, but we're playing Dallas this season because of the similar record clause. So looks like it's just luck of the draw. We get San Fran at home as the other similar record team.

It rotates every year between a NFC and AFC team. This year we play a NFC team because FOX gets the game, next year we will play an AFC so we'll be on CBS. We alternate with the Cowboys between the two stations.

The team we play however, is simply picked to try and get the best ratings. So we'll usually play other popular or good teams on Thanksgiving.
