Carlos Guillen Retires

Carlos has often been mentioned as an excellent candidate for a coaching/managing position someday in MLB or perhaps first gaining experience in the minors, maybe the Tigers can find him a spot somewhere within their organization, if he decides to try to seek a position. Guillen obviously does not need the job or the money, like Maroth likely did, as he and his family are set for life as well as for the lives of his potential grandchildren, great-grandchildren...ect...

He, like most probably his former and still unsigned FA ex-Tigers teammate Magglio, will have never won a WS championship ring, as players anyway.

I'd love to see Guillen, Maggs and Kenny Rogers as part of the organization coaching/scouting staff in the future.

Rogers doesn't seem coach worthy. At least I don't see it. I think Maggs could make a nice hitting coach though.

Thanks for posting Spock;
I heard it on XM radio while running errands.
Carlos was one of the few shortstops that had a couple of .900 OPS seasons.
Two big Carlos memories was the home run in the rain, rain, and more rain a night game a few years back vs. the yankees, and off course last years home run off FF weaver.

Webvideo of Carlos' homerun off FF weaver.
from the Tigers official site

Typical mlb video. They put together the videos and leave out the thing that started the problem in the first place. If a person never saw the game, they would think it started with Guillen and Weaver.

Kenny was in ST teaching the lefties pickoff moves and showing the pitchers fielding skills this year. He seems plenty coach worthy to me.

i wonder if weaver is a little bummed that he wont get a chance to throw a fastball at carlos for that HR...

I'm sure he's over it by now.

Signing those big assed contracts tends to have that effect on people.

I don't know. Weaver seems like a sissy boy that will want to face Carlos again.

The Weaver game was his last great moment!

Yup. Hope he got out in time before any long-term stuff will hobble him for life. Sad to see former pros in that shape.

Weaver doesn't need Maggs or Carlos to lose his composure on the mound, with so many other hitters who he will be facing that could set him off. Their division-rival A's for example, having signed old Manny, who might not circle the bases fast enough for Weaver's taste, should he manage to solo-homer off him later this coming season.

So it wouldn't surprise me at all, if he has a similar incident with another older and slower-running batter this season, especially considering that he and his team have much loftier expectations heading into this season with Pooholes and CJ on their team.
