Carlos signs with the mariners.
from mlbtraderumors

Mariners signed INF Carlos Guillen to a minor league contract.
The deal includes a spring training invite. Guillen, who previously played with Seattle from 1998-2003, batted just .232/.265/.368 with three homers, 13 RBI and a .633 OPS over 102 plate appearances last season with the Tigers. The 36-year-old can't be counted on as an everyday player anymore, but the switch-hitter could be a decent bat off the bench.

Carlos Guillen's career as a Tiger is over; he signs with Mariners.
from the detnews

So Carlos may go full-circle, perhaps playing in what might be his last season in the majors, with the franchise that he debuted with. I wish him "well" and the best...as long as when he might face any opposing team except for the Tigers.

Being back in the ALWD means that if he gets put on the 25 man Mariners' roster during next season, his chances of having some ABs vs the Angels' Jered "hothead" Weaver will increase...hmm...heh!!

:)

Carlos has had many memorable ABs for the Tigers, but none as much, IMO, as that rainstorm-delayed game vs the Yankees @ CoPa on August 24-25 of '07 (wow...that long ago already?) when Guillen hit that walkoff 3 run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning @ precisely 3:30 am EST...unforgettable.

The homerun against FF weaver.
Tigers webvideos only went back to 2008. But I sure do remember that game. It was on a friday night and we had several rain delays froma 7PM start. I remember it was past 3 in the morning and still some rain coming down. Think I got to bed at around 4 and didn't get up until close to 1 that saturday afternoon.

From Baseball Reference's boxscore of the game with two outs and with S.Casey on third and M.Ordonez on first.

Comerica Park
Attendance: 44,163, Time of Game: 4:24

11:06 pm + 4hrs 24mins = 3:30am.

Awesome

:)

Wouldn't it be something if he went there and finally got healthy and played the bulk of a full season?

Good luck to him. I liked him a lot as a player here and would love to see him get one more run of good health before he hangs it up.

Nice player until injuries took a toll. Hope he does well...

I wouldn't trade Santiago for him this time around. Maybe they will get Arod back when he is over the hill too (or is that now?)

I hope he does well. When he was healthy, he was my favorite Tiger.

Wow, Guillen get lots of love, and well wishes, but everyone can't wait for Zumaya to go down in flames.

Probably right now...haha...but the Yankees & their fans will obviously have to deal with it, since no team will likely do a trade for who still remains the highest-paid player in MLB, and who is signed through what I believe is ~age 41? and unless the Yankees are willing to eat more than probably half, if not 2/3rds or so of his annual salary.

Above average, if not stud players on O and D @ 3B aren't exactly plentiful in MLB, which is why I hope that the Tigers retain Castellanos @ that position, even if Miggy pans out playing there beginning next season. Their value would likely remain very, very high, again due to the relative scarcity of stars @ that position.

I hope the best for him, too. I've never been one to hate a player just because he left the Tigers.

I wish the best for Zumaya because he's a nice kid, worked hard while he was here, and had some rotten luck with injuries.

He still has a ton of upside, if the elbow holds out, and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that it will.

I don't think that anybody has anything personally against Zumaya, but he just showed so much upside at times that it was definitely a depressing situation. It is also tough to root for somebody that is on the Twins. :)

I hope Zoom plays fantastically well for the Twins except for against us, and except if the Twins somehow push for the division crown.

And it would be really amazing if Guillen could get just one more solid year out of that body of his. I really hope it happens for his sake. And like somebody else said, I hope I get the opportunity to watch a few Guillen/Weaver match-ups this year!!

Zumaya going to the Twins is the main reason I can't root for him in the same way I could Guillen.

Likewise, division rivals, plus the Mariners are obviously not going to be like the Angels or Rangers, hmmm...although they did humiliate and beat the living shit out of a few current and ex-Tigers starters & relievers, esp. one game of three @ Seattle(Coke, Thomas, ironically Fister got the W for the M's) and esp. @ home (Tigers were swept) (SPs Verlander roughed up, Penny sucked, and Coke fizzed again for 7 runs!! RPs Perry, Thomas again, and Benoit were also roughed up) early last season.

That series @ home vs Seattle was the start of a 7 game losing streak by the Tigers, knocking them out of second place in the division, and was to become their longest of the season, so on second thought, fuck Seattle and even if Carlos Guillen plays for them too...lol.

He will make the team out of spring. The first game against Weaver, he gets plunked. Can't wait.
