He inherited wealth, but wikipedia paints a picture of him being famous for secret gift giving - which is weird. Like he's the Chuck Norris of gift giving, but the Inspector Clouseau of secrecy.

I went to Catholic schools as a kid. I remember in grade school, we would put our shoes out in the hallway and "St. Nick" would put candy in them. He never came to our house though.

One year my stepdad of the time had us do it. I feel like it was earlier in December and on "Saint Nicholas Day" which wasn't the same as "Christmas."
