Chris Greenwood CB

I do too. Just on his skill set alone some teams would snag him off the PS.

IF he can't make it on specials he'll be on the PS. Man this guy is the most overhyped Lion since the Zack Attack.

So Don Carey makes it over him as the #6 corner? How does that make sense?

Lions agreed to terms with fifth-round CB Chris Greenwood on a four-year contract.
Greenwood has drawn comparisons ranging from Antonio Cromartie to Brandon Carr for his elite size-speed combination and playmaking ball skills. Less physical than Carr, though, Greenwood is going to need to improve his tackling to earn the trust of Detroit's coaching staff. He should make the final 53

Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham likens fifth-round CB Chris Greenwood to $50 million man Brandon Carr.
Cunningham was on Kansas City's coaching staff when the Chiefs drafted Carr out of Grand Valley State. Like Carr, Greenwood is a big corner from a small school. Greenwood became the first player from D-III Albion College to be drafted since 1967. He's an intriguing long-term project for the Lions.

Yep, you're right, I'd take Don Carey over him in a heartbeat......Geez. No one thinks he's going to step in and dominate. Mayhew knew he was a project when he drafted him. He won't give up on him after one training camp so he can keep Don Carey as the #6 corner.

But what's the point if he'll just lose him anyway? Young teams that aren't very good grab guys like this all the time just because of being speed and height etc.

If he stinks and has no upside that's one thing but if they think he could have a future, sneak him on the team somehow.

For the record I think he makes the 53 and plays gunner/contain on special teams. However if he doesn't and lands on the PS I don't see teams tripping over themselves to take him. Measurables are over rated, they can get you into camp but then you have to play the game. Besides teams have their own PS projects to deal with.

He might be overhyped, but its wrong to say that many teams have projects like this guy. Very, very few corners have this combo of size, speed, fluid hips, arm length, vertical, and ball skills. He's as raw as they get, but you can be sure someone would take him in, even if its just to get a look at him.

I dont think anyone was expecting Greenwood to step right in and start. Yes it would be great if he could although very unrealistic. Give him a chance to grow and get used to the speed of the game.

I do think the kid from ULL has a chance to start. Yes during his conference play he didnt play against top level WR's but in his non conf he did and he played well. I thought I remember hearing that he handled Blackmon really well one on one. I will never really get why some of you are against small school late rd players. Not every hall of famer is from a BCS school drafted in the first 3 rds. We havnt even had training camp yet and you are acting like they are busts already.

I am actually against making small school late round players into hall of famers before the season starts. Bottom line the kid is overhyped, and it is easy to see why, he's a local, he has a good back story, and he has raw athletic talent. He's like one of those American Idol contestants with a kid and a dying mom who everyone is rooting for but rarely turns out to be a winner. Good luck to him, I'm rooting for him as I am all the picks. I'll stand by my ST or PS prediction, which I consider a win.

This.

It's not like it would be entirely unprecedented for a 5th rounder to start on the practice squad... although I do think you're right tsmith, after what happened with Lydon Murtha, Schwartz and Co. are probably going to be more cautious about players being taken from the practice squad and will injury reserve them.

But the fact is that the guy has been on teams at Northwood, Eastern Michigan (didn't play a down), and Albion. As I've said before, I have friends from my high school who weren't even all that great at football that currently start at both Northwood and Albion... there is a reason no one has selected an MIAA player in the draft since 1967.

With that said I was happy with the pick and still am. I just don't think he's a lock to make the final 53 and wouldn't be shocked to see him start the season on the practice squad/IR. Of everyone on the roster however, he's probably the guy I'm looking forward to watching the most in preseason, along with Tahir Whitehead.

Bah...he's either on the 53 or IR. No chance MM risks losing him by putting him on the PS. He would not last a day before another team snagged him.

Only reason i think IR is not the way to go is he won't get the development training he needs. I'm probably wrong but i don't think they can be on the practice field doing a good amount of reps if on IR, and this kid needs as much practice reps and game reps, even if only on ST, as possible to get used to the NFL speed and hitting.
