Cruz, Your Evangelical Base TrusTed You

Is she a "born again" Christian? If so, I find it very shitty for Cruz to pull the ad. I'm pretty sure the guy that he worships actually went out of his way to protect prostitutes and even reform them. I would think it'd be a nice story for them.

makes sense even if she's not born again - unless she's still doing Showtime After Dark or sCinemax features. But if that's the case it was pretty dumb of the producer to not check her out on IMDB first...

All the Cruz campaign would have to say is, "Before hiring this woman, we took her past into account but were convinced that she's repented from that life and has turned to God. Miss (whatever her name is) should be applauded for her spiritual growth and we hope that others will continue to pray for her. All things are possible through Jesus Christ. God Bless America!"

If this had been done, he would have taken nearly all evangelicals that haven't hopped on board, yet.

exactly. As long as she's not still making those kinds of movies I don't think she even has to be a born again or evangelical - "she saw the error of her ways, turned her life around and we support that." But if she's still "acting" in those "roles", it's a different story and it's their own fault for not knowing it - look her up on IMDB, there's easily a dozen obvious porn titles on her bio. Easiest background check ever.

Here she is being interviewed by Jake Tapper.

She claims to be a conservative Republican who is socially liberal.

Really, she never did hard core porn - just showed her boobs and a little butt and simulated sex - but lots of known actresses have done that.

Mimi Rogers comes to mind as a main stream actress who really really loved to show her boobs and do simulated sex...former Oscar nominee Sally Kirkland too.

The ad is actually pretty good...now that everybody's already seen it anyway, I think the Cruz campaign should start airing it again....

Republicans should just learn to deal with porn. they consume at least half of it, including most of the really fucked up stuff.

Was she a mainstream actress? I thought she was more like Shannon Tweed and Joan Severance only not as hot - more like an Amy Lindsay. I mostly remember Mimi Rogers for being one of Tom Cruise's first beards...

None of Mimi Rogers, Shannon Tweed nor Joan Severance are top box office superstars, but yeah, I would call them all mainstream inasmuch as the general public knows who they are. Of the three I would say that Mimi Rogers has been in more things that more people would have seen.

Mimi Rogers had a pretty big role in the first Austin Powers movie (she played Elizabeth Hurley's character's mom), which obviously was a huge box office success and is somewhat culturally iconic.

Recently she had a recurring role in 2 and a Half Men as Ashton Kutcher's characters mom.

Most people who watch TV and movies will say to themselves "oh, it's Mimi Rogers," when she comes on screen.

So, I would say yes - not a box office superstar, but well known and mainstream.

I once heard some screenwriter complaining how Austin Powers ruined James Bond scriptwriting for years and even now they can't be silly in ways the original material was because of it.

If they can't be silly anymore, it may have more to do with Daniel Craig than Austin Powers.

I'd rather see them air this one more often - most will recognize it's a rip off of the printer scene from Office Space...

Austin Powers hit in the Pierce Brosnan era, which was still a little goofy. I think Daniel Craig was hired because they were going to be goofy anymore.

The last Bond movie before Powers was Goldeneye, with Xenia Onatopp. I don't think there were any more over-the-top puns of that nature after that.

Maybe it wasn't a writer. I could have sworn it was a writer, but the first thing I found was from Craig

https://www.mi6-hq.com/sections/articles/interview-daniel-craig-interview-foreshadows-bond-24

The truth of it is that I always had this plan in my head is that we got to make them and begin them again and bring all that back in, but it had to happen the way it did. I can't see it happening any other way. We had to destroy the myth because Mike Myers fucked us - I am a huge Mike Myers fan, so don't get me wrong - but he kind of fucked us; made it impossible to do the gags.

I also think there was talk of there being some new Bond books getting commissioned.

Here it is.

The interviewer must have asked the writer about the Craig statement and I remembered it backwards.

I also remember something about how back when Bond was written, being selective and worldly about what he ate, drank, and smoked was a lot cooler because it was far more difficult to have access to enough stuff to develop such tastes. Not you can read reviews online and order the best and have it delivered with less cost and no experience...so acting like that just comes off as snobbish.
