Dirks has a higher OBP and is infinitely better in the field, who cares about one more homer and 5 more rbi and a bit more OPS when theyre both under .700? We do need to replace Dirks, but replacing him with 'elmn is a gigantic step backwards.

I dont really like the stat much, but given that theyve both been part-time OFs this year, here is each of their WARs:

Dirks: 0.9
'elmn: -0.9


Young is just that much worse in the field, and if neither of them are going to hit much ill take Dirks' OBP and fewer Ks on offense in addition to his defense. Don't forget that in order to even have 'elmn on the PS roster, we'd have to sign him before sept 1st and drag him on the roster all through sept. id rather just see what castellanos can do as a callup then.

I just want Delmon for his bat on the bench otherwise he plays the OF as little as possible.

I will feel better about the Tigers' IF offense when Infante returns and IF Prince can continue to heat up during the remainder of the season and esp in the postseason, where his bat largely vanished last year:

In 28 postseason games Young has hit .264/.322 /.538 w/.859 OPS with 8 homers, 3 doubles, 1 triple, and 15 RBIs. That posted, I wouldn't want him to be penciled into the starting lineup every game, but he might be a halfway decent hitter off a bench that only counts Tui as a legit bat. The rest of the bench, ,likely being comprised of Santiago. Pena, and Kelly doesn't exactly instill a sense of fear into opposing pitchers.

It really doesn't matter though, since from now on the Tigers will most likely roll with what they have on the roster or in-house if necessary in the postseason, should they clinch.

Now Delmon oung can go hang out with his brother Dimitri Young n his boat. Both players were crappy teammates and are a cancer to any team.

I don't see many teams left willing to give Delmon a spot on the 25 man roster.
