Delusional ND Fan

One name being mentioned as a possible assistant is Scott Loeffler. That name should be familiar.

Claiming you - a former linebacker with a degree from that academic powerhouse ohio - serve the University in a more important capacity by raising money for breast cancer research is basically a nice way of admitting that everyone knows you would be a shitty football coach.

anyways, the bottom line is Meyer put together a good staff at UF. He should be able to do the same thing at ohio. the only questions I have are: 1.) how should he handle any firings of the current staff; and 2.) does it even matter?

at Michigan, the handling of the staff was the first mistake (OF MANY) RichRod made. Meyer may want to be tread lightly in year 1... maybe keep a few guys around for a year to placate the establishment. then again, at ohio, where half the fans seem ready to run the current staff out of town on a rail, and the mob rules, it may not matter.

certainly... they already worked together. Loeffler's at Temple now (OC). Not sure if Meyer would bring him in as an OC, or if he would accept a move back to QBC at this point in his career.

He's worked with at least three former Michigan coaches: Mattison, Loeffler, and Bedford.

was just looking at Temple's media guide... there are a few coaches on staff there with ties to Meyer.

I thought his first mistake was calling TP first?

If we list all of RR's mistakes we will be here all day.

hmmm... yeah. And I forgot about the #1 jersey thing, the buyout mess...

I guess the handling of the Michigan staff was at least his third or fourth mistake. Probably his biggest up to that point.

Actually, maybe not even that.

(Jesus, that was a disaster from day one.)

Well, I dont think his #1 jersey thing happened until spring ball. He was already well into his 10th or 11th mistake by then...

yeah, that might have been a 2 bagger if you count that he probably made that call using a WVU phone (the 'neers sure saw it as a crime.)

Well, it certainly could be seen as a precursor to future mistakes. His first call after getting the job was to a hs QB that was about to pick Ohio and beat him all 3 years. In hindsight, not that it might've affected anything, he might've waited until telling his players at WVU or used that first call to talk to Mallett, even if it didn't work, it would've been better for PR and we shouldn't underestimate PR. His was a nightmare from the beginning until even now as he complains about how good MIchigan is doing without him.

well, I don't think it's unreasonable to think Meyer would try to lure Mattison away... after seeing the way our defense turned around, he's gotta be a pretty hot commodity.

The family connections and connections to Brady are one thing, but then again, he did leave in '97 to go to ND...

The family connection thing was largely what led him to ND iirc.
