Get StartedI know everybody hates Casey, but Weaver needs to be on the hot seat sometime soon if things don?t turn around. This roster is just bad, there are maybe 3 average to above average defenders on this team (being generous), and the only good shooters are aging vets. I know the roster is young and winning isn?t a priority right now, but I?m struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel of this rebuild, this roster still needs a lot of work.

I think Weaver has done a pretty good job given the circumstances. He was hired as the GM at the end of 2020.
Here is what the roster looked like in the 2019-2020 season (prior to his arrival)
D Rose
A Drummond
L Kennard
B Griffin
R Jackson
C Wood
+ a bunch of bums (even worse than above)
In 2 seasons he has gotten rid of all of the dead weight.
This year's team is without their best player. Also, they have $20M in dead cap space, which will all come off next year.
Based on who they will likely keep, they should have about $54-$57M to spend in free agency or acquire salary via trades.
I think he has done a good job of setting this team up for future success. His draft picks need to pan out and he needs to add some good FA which is difficult because the city of Detroit isn't a desirable FA destination. He may have to go the trade / sign and trade route to get a really good player.
I think he?s done the minimum that you?d expect from any GM in that situation.
Some of that money will need to be committed to re-signing picks soon, and I think the jury is still out on guys like Saddiq and Killian, who have contracts due up soon.
Unfortunate what happened to Cade this year, but I don?t see him making a huge difference this year record-wise. I think they?re still 2 years out from being a play-in team, but they have to at least show something next season (frankly, they?ve looked worse this year). Gotta start winning more than 20-25 games a season at some point.
I don't think any of the money in next off season is needed to lock up any potential free agents that are necessary. Bey, Stewart, Hayes aren't up until the 24-25 season. All three appear to be fringe starters or role players which shouldn't break the bank.
I agree that Cunningham wouldn't make a huge difference, but he would have made a difference.
Hayes numbers: 27 min 10/3/6
Joseph 16 min 5/1/3
Cunningham 33 min 20/6/6
