Now I know all you saber metric Internet nerds are as brokenhearted as I am of the tragedy that is in this season of our Detroit Tigers.

But the most recent MLB general thread was from my buddy Tom Dalton, saluting Mike Trout.

During the dark years, in between Sparky Anderson and Smokes, I adopted the two Southern California teams where I reside - The Angels and the Dodgers - So the Dodgers are currently Chasing their third world Series appearance.

So what are Tigers fans-like me-in the wake of our own woeful Tigers-of the Dodgers?
 
This is why it's nice to have 2 sports you really like. I'm just waiting for hockey at this point.
 
Growing up the main local station we had for baseball was WGN. So it was the Cubs, who for some reason I could never bring myself to like. I grew a liking to the Pirates, who they played a lot. My favorites were Andy Van Slyke, Barry Bonds, Bobby Bo, Sid Bream, and even Leyland when he was the manager. Being a Michigan native I always claimed the Tigers, but I was re-energized when they got Leyland to manage and AVS to coach first base. Although he did not stick around long. Pirates are still my fav NL team. I find myself watching more Astros box scores now since JV has been there. That is an exciting team to watch.
 
Started following the Tigers in 1964 and have not looked back. As an impressionable kid I had teams I hated (O's, A's, Cards, and Reds) were at the top of the list. So, I suffer and celebrate with the Tigers and only the Tigers. In my early 20's (8-8-1977) I went to a Tigers-Brewers game and my buddy and I saw that Bill Travers and Jim Slaton were sitting a few rows away and we boldly went over there and chatted them up. Travers especially was openly bashing the Brewers' organization and was breaking down individual players, mostly for their deficiencies. The Brewers "was a losing organization" and when Jason Thompson hit a HR off a Brewers' pitcher, Travers said of the pitcher: "I have no idea what he's doing here". (I looked it up and the pitcher in question, Eduardo Rodriguez, pitched two more seasons in MLB.)

You?ve had this conversation with me and others a number of times.

You have claimed to follow post season baseball, though, because you?re a baseball fan, even when the Tigers are out.

When the Tigers are out, I pay a little attention to postseason baseball unless the Dodgers are in.

Sure I follow the post season, but I don't pull for one team over another.

Did I ever tell you that my final HS PA was against Steve Howe? Yes. I did. HA.

Okay.

So on a scale of 1 to 100, when the Tigers are involved I am 100% committed.
When the Dodgers are involved, I am maybe 10-20%.

When the Red Sox and the Cubs finally won, it was cool but my interest in that was an asterisk.

So it will be when Cleveland finally wins.

Unless Cleveland beats the Dodgers this year.

I wouldn?t be happy about that.
 
When I was younger all the way until about 30 I would watch just about everyone. Now its just the Tigers and occasionally Arizona. That's it. No playoffs void of Detroit. NHL on the the other hand I still watch many other teams/games. But no favorite just watch to enjoy the game.

Man, I was just thinking about you as I was logging back on and here is your post. I must be psychic-actually I think I am. My wife thinks I might be, but she also thinks it might be more intuition so to speak.

Anyways, I know you kind of like the Arizona Diamondbacks, you?re adopted hometown team, much in the way I kind of like the Dodgers.

If the Dodgers get in the WS and lose, it will be the first time that has happened in 106 years, and it has only happened twice, in nearly six consecutive seasons, from 1907-09 (Tigers) and 1911-13 (Giants). No team has ever lost three straight WS to three different opponents.

Well, both teams the Dodgers lost to are in contention to get back to the post season, although a recent tumble has knocked Boston down to 3 1/2 out of the second wildcard play in slot.

I don?t think the Dodgers will lose a third World Series in a row this year though.

If it happens, there might be a recreation of the epic Lasorda-Doug Rau row on the Dodger Stadium mound in G4 of the 1977 WS if there is need for a controversial pitching change.

Davey Lopes had to intervene. It was that demonstrative.

It's a nice get away from the Tigers, esp. the past two years. Plus I like some of their players and they seem like a nicely run team.

I can?t find a clip of the literal fuckin? video, but it?s the fuckin? audio that primarily counts anyway.

I did not know CarrotTop pitched for Los Angeles. I mean, that was my look in 1975.
