Game 13: Packers @ Lions Thread

QB is not the issue on this team. He hasn?t been the answer but he damn sure isn?t the issue.

He will cost too much for not being a difference maker. 2021 is his contract out year. #14 salary in the entire NFL. New coach/GM will decide his fate....but its time to move on.

He beat one good record team and that team might not be good record after the season ends.

Just watched the replay of the Stafford injury. That was no penalty.

well, I guess more people will "drool over Rodgers"

AR 26/33, 290 yards, 3 TDs plus a rushing TD

Matt 24/34, 244 yards, 1 TD

Rodgers beat up on a bunch of 2nd stringers on the worst pass defense in the league. How is this a valid comparison?

All I know is one QB was part of the winning team and the the other one wasn't, per usual.

I don't know how "valid" the comparison is...it's just a comparison.

I guess it shouldn't be valid. AR is an all time great...probably top 5 all time. Matt is...well, good when compared to the QBs in his era but not even in the conversation of "all time".

It probably wasn't a fair comparison. It's like comparing Barry Sanders to Mark Ingram.

Stafford played well again. Lions lose because of backup defense playing and poor blocking (again backup players)

Might be Staffords last game now with the rib injury. Rodgers slides like that they call a penalty. Never should have had that play if they call the Marvin Jones catch correctly either. Fitting bullshit end screwed over.

If we drop Stafford though, we'll stink for the next 3 years. With Stafford, have a chance for a quicker rebuild. Let's see how many picks we can get for him and give that man the support he deserves on another team. He's been tortured long enough by the refs, by injuries, by poor play from talented players around him.

Give him an average defense, proper ref calls, 2-3 weapons and he'll win a Super Bowl for somebody

he did play well.

Personally, I don't think he has had many talented players around him over the past few years, especially on the defensive side of the ball and in the trenches. They have spent plenty of capitol on offensive skill players but not enough on the rest.

the Lions have had average defenses and weapons over time and he wasn't able to lead them to a single playoff win.

Bottom line, since he has been a Lion they have had shitty front offices, mostly shitty coaching, and never really had a good plan on how to build a winning team. They always go for the "flash" but no substance in the draft and usually miss on most picks. Terrible organization.

I just never understood why some people say "oh yeah, put him on another team and he'll win a super bowl no sweat."

The dude has NEVER had a pressure playoff situation. The times he was in the playoff, they came up short. I'm talking about conference championship-level pressure, where he actually has to step up and elevate everyone else.

If he TRULY cared that much about winning a championship and had that fire, he would have screamed at his agent six years ago to get him out of town. He has such a carefree, sweet situation with Detroit where he can show up, get paid, go home. I don't question the dude is tough, but if he really wanted a championship, he would have left a LONG time ago.

"proper ref calls." That's not a thing.

Lions tried to get Oline. They don't just get flash

Decker, Ragnow are good first round picks and LT/C are set. Wagner RT for years who was good but then bad 2019. Now with Packers. And Crosby has been solid but can be upgraded and was hurt yesterday. Vaitai more big money on Oline and big whiff. Lang was big money too and was good then got hurt.

Jackson started hot but is still solid rookie but still a rookie. Aboushi is garbage, Wiggins garbage, Glasgow good but they didn't want to pay a guard 11 per. Dahl solid but they don't play him.

They prioritized the Oline but whiffed and got injury issues plus didn't want to pay Glasgow. And Oline more pass blocking than run blocking guys it seems. Can't get the full good combo.

And now WR a huge need because 3 contracts expire at same time.

Defense was just whiffs in draft galore with day 2 picks and FA this year. And then Okudah sucked as rookie (maybe it was chronic groin injury). Plus Patricia prioritizing size for speed on Dline/LB and even Safety/CB.

The only flash was Hock who is a really good player. And he does some blocking too

Id argue picking as many RBs and TEs we have in the first 2 rounds is "flash". Dunno what that word means but you dont see many teams be successful with that draft strategy.

Ebron, Hockenson, Best, Abdullah, Leshoure, Kerryon, Swift (i wont even go as far back as Pettigrew)....thats 7 starters on this pathetic defense and what would our 2020 Offense be missing? a 700 yard TE with suspect hands (he almost never catches the ball clean) and a 300 yard back with promise. Dime a dozen.

Would you trade Hockenson and swift for an entire defense?

That doesnt even count other high round pick busts like Tabor, Davis, the WR with no knees.

And I suspect WR is their first pick in the draft.

They took their shot at Oline early and FA

Dline they went expensive FA (Flowers), cheap FA Okwara (who is good 2 of 3 years), trade for Snacks in 2018 and extended him but then cut him because of Patricias attitude, bad FA move in Mike Daniels, Robinson second round pick but was up and down and now on Rams (2016-2019 Lions). Gave up a 3rd for Hand (good player) to be picked in 4th. 2019 Dline wasn't needed when they took Hock. And a guy like Brian Burns just doesn't fit what Patricia does.

And of course we take Ragnow every day over everybodys love on here in Taco Charlton (fail). Some was circumstances why we end up with Hock and I am very glad we did. And they tried to trade for Gronk but he was said no thank you so they end up with Hock too.

They whiffed in FA this year at DT. Shelton showed solid things then got hurt. DT from 2018-2019 wasn't a need due to Snacks and Robinson but they still added Daniels 2019. DE Flowers added in 2019 too on a huge deal. So they went a FA route (Flowers,Daniels, Okwara, Shelton, Williams), trade route (Snacks which was good and extended him but then cut him) and day 2 route in Robinson/Hand. Plus the whole Patricias style of 2 gapping, bull rush no speed so they can hold the edge and limited stunts and blitzes.

And as for WR in Round 1, we'll see what happens in FA for WR and other positions. Lions haven't taken a WR in Round 1 since Calvin in 2007 by the way.

And a cheap but really talented WR for 4 years is nice. Otherwise you are paying Golladay or Ty Hilton or Robinson big money.

Near the middle/bottom in QBR and basically at the bottom in completion percentage throughout the entire year.

You can try and dress it up as much as you want, but at 32, he's just an average/above average QB in an increasingly QB-friendly league.

Whether or not you think he's the best QB in the world is irrelevant; he's had his time here and it's time to move on.

WR heavy draft. I think Chase is gone before we pick, but I would be very happy with Smith.

Olave or Moore in the 2nd are good value picks.

1st round picks

Chase
Waddle
DeVonta Smith
Terrance Marshall

Possible 1st....likely 2nd round

Marquez Stevenson
Olave
Rondale Moore

don't forget about Bateman. Probably a late first rounder or second rounder.

I wouldn't take a WR in the top 10 regardless. They seem like there are really good WRs taken every year in the 2nd round and beyond, and I don't think a really good WR has as big of an impact as other positions. The Lions have so many holes.

If they have a top 8 pick, it needs to be an impact player and it should be an impact player on the defensive side of the ball (in the front 7)
