Technically a ball maybe but that's on Jones. That close you swing with 2 strikes. You don't sit there hoping for a walk.

Jones had an 11 pitch AB, which means that he fouled off at least 5 pitches, and that pitch wasn't particularly too close to take. This team lacks plate discipline, and it desperately needs more hitters who have ABs like that one was. When I see one of their batters come to the plate after it has become obvious the the pitcher that they are facing has control problems and has issued a walk or walks, especially on 4 straight, then why do so many so often swing away and quickly popout, groundout, or strikeout?...just stupid baseball.


If there had been no one on base with two out in the top 9th, and the Tigers were down by two runs or more, then Meals ringing up Jones on a 3-2 count, even after the previous batter in Hicks had ALSO gone to a full count before striking out swinging, then there would be much less reason to object to a strike call that wasn't all that very close.


There are no Vladimir Guerreros on the Tigers, and even his son can't hit pitches for base hits out of the strike zone like his dad could, or not as yet anyway.

Nonetheless, it's too close to take. That's one of those pitches where it will always - could go either way. Yes, it was a good at bat but damn protect the plate. It's not like it was a foot outside but 2 inches. We're just too close to it because we're Tiger fans.
