Tigers? Miguel Cabrera diagnosed with ?chronic? knee injury.
Plus updates on Josh Harrison and Jordy Mercer.

According to reports on Tuesday, after visiting four different specialists, Cabrera was presented with the option of a season-ending knee surgery, but was told by doctors he could continue to play if he desired, and treat the knee as a day-to-day concern. Cabrera, naturally, opted to continue his season. He apparently said, ?I?m done with surgeries.?

When reporters asked Tigers head athletic trainer Doug Teter about the injury, he did not seem overly concerned about its severity, but did say it would be something that would be a part of Cabrera?s life for the remainder of his playing career.

?The only advice I can say to young kids is take care of their body when they have to," Miguel Cabrera said. "When they have something, stop playing for a week and come back. Don?t play through pain, because you?re going to pay the price later.?

This is confusing. Apparently, the knee could be "repaired" with surgery but Miggy wants to play on it anyway. He's "done with surgeries". Then he goes on to say "When they have something, stop playing for a week and come back. Don’t play through pain, because you’re going to pay the price later.”

If it's something that can be fixed...fix it!

The actual report (not the slanted version):

Miguel Cabrera consulted with four specialists. Season-ending knee surgery was considered, but doctors gave him go-ahead to keep playing. Tigers taking it day by day. He'll be exclusively DH; no first base, at least for now.

Don’t know the nature of his knee problem but turmeric is good for inflammation he should take lots of turmeric

From Tigers beat reporter Jason Beck:
Cabrera said he has been dealing with knee issues for five years. He?ll have to deal with this for the rest of his career.

Four specialists reviewed MRI on Cabrera?s right knee. Surgery was discussed, but recommendation was treat symptoms as they come. He?ll be DHing for foreseeable future.

Miguel Cabrera played through a torn groin and a broken foot while Tigers were trying to get back to World Series in 2013 and 2014. Played thru more injuries while trying to get Tigers into playoffs in 2016. Wouldn't discuss injuries he was dealing with until end of each season.

There was a four-year stretch when, after final game each season, would ask Cabrera what injuries he was dealing with down stretch. And only then would he answer. The guy just played, especially when they were playing in October.
