Tigers were leading 5 - 0 on two Castellanos home runs.

Sucks, no game thread until now.

Zimmersucks shits himself after 4 no-hit innings,

Tied up at 5 top of the 8th.

Joe Jimenez throwing harder lately, but his 4-seam fastball spin rate of 2550 rpm ranks fourth-highest in MLB this year, just behind Verlander. He retires Sox in order in 8th.

Tigers win 7 - 5.
Nick 3 for 5 with 2 Bombs and 5 RBI.
Farmer with the win,
Greene 19th Save.

This was old school a closer 4 straight days. Gotta give it to Green.

WORTH NOTING

* There was an extreme heat advisory issued for the Chicago area on Saturday, with highs predicted in the mid-90s. Perhaps due to its proximity to the lake, Guaranteed Rate Field was much more pleasant, with a game-time temperature of just 81 degrees.

* Entering the fifth inning Saturday, Zimmermann had thrown 16 consecutive scoreless innings over three starts dating back to April 30.

* Nicholas Castellanos recorded the fourth multi-home run game of his career. Before Saturday, the last time he hit two home runs was Aug. 22, 2017, against the New York Yankees.

The Detroit Tigers (35-37) defeated the Chicago White Sox, 7-5, on Saturday afternoon.
Nicholas Castellanos hit a two-out, three-run home run to right-center in the third inning and a two-run home run to left in the fifth to give the Tigers a five-run cushion at Guarenteed Rate Field.
The White Sox scored four runs in the fifth inning off right-handed pitcher Jordan Zimmermann. Chicago tied the game, 5-5, in the sixth on a triple by Yolmer S?nchez and a sac fly to right by Jose Abreu off Drew VerHagen.
The Tigers got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh. Detroit scored twice in the eighth with the bases loaded off ex-Tiger Bruce Rondon, who gave up a walk, a bunt single to JaCoby Jones, an RBI infield single to Jos? Iglesias and a bases-loaded walk to Niko Goodrum.

Zimmermann didn't allow a hit over the first four innings, then gave up four straight hits in the fifth, including an RBI double to Tim Anderson and a two-run single to left by Charlie Tilson. A sac fly to left by Trayce Thompson brought home Tilson to cut he deficit to 5-4 for the White Sox. The four-run fifth inning snapped a 16-inning scoreless streak for Zimmermann dating back to before he went on the disabled list with a right shoulder impingement.
White Sox righty Lucas Giolito allowed five runs on six hits over 5 innings. He walked two and struck out six.

Castellanos now has four career multi-home run games; he finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored... Grayson Griener hit a two-out double to center in the sixth.
Ronny Rodriguez went 0-for-3 and has gone hitless in his last 16 at-bats.
Jeimer Candelario finished 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.
Victor Martinez went 3-for-4.
John Hicks finished 0-for-3 with two walks and a run scored.

Drew VerHagen allowed one run on two hits in one inning with one strikeout.
Buck Farmer gave up a pair of walks with two outs to load the bases before Jose Abreu grounded into a force out at third base in the seventh.
Joe Jim?nez had one strikeout in a scoreless inning of relief.
Closer Shane Greene pitched for the fourth straight game, had a 1-2-3 ninth for the Tigers.

The Tigers have scored the go-ahead runs in the seventh inning or later in all four of the wins in this streak.
The Tigers late-inning relievers have been stout in this stretch, as well. Joe Jimenez, who has not allowed a run in his last seven outings, pitched a clean eighth.
Closer Shane Greene, working his fourth straight game, pitched a clean ninth for his 19th save.

Well they've reached the dreaded 2 games under .500 mark. Would be nice to finally get over that hump tomorrow!

Yup...I see that Zimmerman went from no-hitter to completely in the shitter.
Then Rodriguez had to showoff some gawdawful offense and defense.

Thanks Rally Bruce!!

Nick=POTG!!!

Four saves in as many days for Shane Greene, who retires White Sox in order in 9th. Four wins in a row for Tigers, this one a 7-5 victory. They remain unbeaten since Miguel Cabrera's season-ending injury.

With today’s save, Shane Greene became the first Tigers closer to earn a save on four consecutive days since Todd Jones from June 30-July 3, 2000.
